John Benjamin Smith, 82, of Salem, KY, passed away June 28, 2013, at his home. Mr. Smith is survived by, one daughter Sandy Gray of Evansville, IN; one son, Ralph Smith of Illinois; three grandchildren, Barbie Jonies, Paula Gray, and Jennifer Gray; six great grandchildren; a close friend, Ricky Belt; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Smith; three brothers; four sisters; and his parents, Joseph and Dollie Smith. Funeral services were held July 1, 2013, at Boyd Funeral Directors in Salem, with Rev. Roger Holloman officiating. Burial followed in Salem Cemetery. Condolences may also be left online at boydfuneraldirectors.com.

Calvin Glen “Tiny” Hunter, 52, of Salem, KY, passed away June 26, 2013, at Livingston Hospital and Healthcare Services in Salem, KY. Tiny was an avid sports fan, running the Livingston County Ballparks for over 12 years. Tiny was also a member of Miracle Word Church. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Tammy Hunter; two children, Tyler and Tyanna Hunter both of Salem, KY; his mother, Martha Hunter of Kalamazoo, MI; mother-in-law, Loretta Millikan of Smithland, KY; two sisters, Suzie Sellers of Brook, IN and Judy Thomas of Kalamazoo, MI; several nieces and nephews; and his dogs, BA, Ruby, Max, and Boo. Funeral services were held June 29, 2013 at Boyd Funeral Directors, with the Rev’s Howard Jones and Tim Fouts officiating.  Burial followed in Salem Cemetery.  Condolences may also be left online at boydfuneraldirectors.com.

Benny Bruce Cobb, age 64, of Paducah, KY, went home to be with the Lord on June 24, 2013 after suffering heart failure while at work. Benny loved his job and he loved people.  He was always available to try to do something he could for someone else.  He loved working outdoors, gardening and spending time with those he knew.  Benny was an avid and valuable baseball player for Reidland High School and Murray State University. He finished college at the University of Kentucky.  Benny loved the Lord. Survivors include two sisters, Sandra Cobb of Paducah, and Connie Cobb Kitchens (Ronnie) of Salem; step-mother, Virginia Cobb of Paducah; two chosen brothers, Edward Farrell, J.D. Draffen and a beloved companion, BD, his blue heeler; one niece and two nephews, Tara and Matt McCleane of Mississippi, Ryan Kitchens of Salem, Rudy and Tina Cobb of Burna; four great nephews, Samuel, Sawyer, and Collin of Mississippi, Bryan Cobb of Burna.  He had several aunts, uncles, and cousins that he was special to. Benny was preceded in death by his parents, Frances Martin Cobb, and Carl Odell Cobb.  Brucee was his companion for 15 years and died just after Benny’s father. Funeral services were held June 27, 2013 in the chapel of Boyd funeral Directors in Salem, with Rev’s. Roger Rice and Terry Phelps officiating. Burial followed in the Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Mike “Poppy” Downey66 of Marion, KY passed away Wednesday June 26, 2013 at his home.
He was a retired distribution manager for industrial chemical sales, member of Marion Baptist Church, member of Waxahachie ROMEO’S and Promise Keepers.  Mr. Downey was also a salesman for Patty’s Cowpatties Gourmet Cookies and  had served in the United States Navy. Mr. Downey is survived by his wife Patricia Downey, Marion, KY; son Tim (Ashley) Morries, Marion, KY; daughter, Christina Downey, Oxnard, CA; brothers, Dennis Downey, Mesa, AZ and Richard Downey, Santa Rosa, CA; friend, John Connell, Houston, TX and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, George Francis and Ferne Christensen Downey and one sister. A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, July 5 at 7 P.M. at the Myers Funeral Home, Marion, KY. Friends may visit between the hours of 5 and 7 P.M. on Friday at Myers Funeral Home.
