Illegal Guatemalan immigrants go to Immigration Court. An early morning wreck in Wickliffe leads to arrest of two armed robbery suspects fleeing to Kentucky via U.S. 51. Eight individuals are injured in a three-car wreck on the mile-long bridge outside of Wickliffe. Wickliffe City Council welcomes new members Cathy Hurt and Larry Hammett. Clay Chandler joins the 1000 point Club at BMHS. Six female inmate celebrate “Rubies for Life”. Brandi Jones joins 1000 point.Club at BMHS.



Judges visit Ballard County on 6th annual River Counties Tour. Tony and Melissa Hall become new owners of Hillbilly Café in Wickliffe. Town & Country Supermarket buys the Family Dollar Store building in Wickliffe. Melissa Koontz opens the Bomber Grill & Chill in La Center. A reward is offered for the return of “Louie” the English Bulldog stolen during a rash of robberies in Wickliffe. Cairo sees the opening of two new businesses: Subway and Blue Fish Liquor Store. The Red Cross holds mock shelter exercise at Bandana Baptist Life Center.



BCES Principal Phillip Harned resigns; Vice Principal Vicki Gough fills position of interim principal. Wickliffe Mayor Lynn Hopkins signs contract for Ft. Jefferson Grant Project. Ballard County Schools Superintendent Casey Allen is appointed to State Advisory Panel. Brandi Jones, Abbi Denton, and Clay Chandler are named to All district Basketball teams. Two Rivers Fishery hold job fair. Wreck on U.S. 51 claims one life. Stolen puppy “Louie” finally goes home. Long-time Board of Education member Kim Terrell resigns. Steve Flarity, author of Kentucky Everyday heroes, is featured at KVPM chili cook-off. Kathy Aydlotte named “Person of the Year” at annual Chamber of Commerce Dinner. Ballard County CO-OP holds open house. Ballard Sheriff Todd Cooper warns residents of county-wide scam involving scammers offering to fix driveways and do house-hold chores. Life Care of La Center celebrates 35 years. Kevil Postmaster General Keith Deweese retires. Lindsey Hargrove opens “Lindsey’s Airbrush” in Wickliffe. Helpful neighbors surveillance cameras and facebook help catch thieves who burglarized a home on Hamburg Road. Neace Lukens Insurance Agency replaces the defunct Kentucky School boards Insurance Trust (KISBIT). County mourns loss of Dennis Nunan. Dennis was a Kevil City Council member, the captain of both the la Center Rural and Kevil Rural Fire departments., and a special deputy to the Ballard County Sheriff’s department.  



Judge/Executive Vickie Viniard declares May as Thank a Veteran month. Derby Day is held at the Farmer’s Market. Ballard Chamber of Commerce holds 1st Annual Derby Day fashion show at the Barlow House Museum. Residents in Bandana celebrate “Bandana Day.” A Kentucky Cash ball winner wins $200,000 from a ticket bought at Cut-Mart in Wickliffe. Charlie Trice fills Kevil Council seat left vacant by the passing of Dennis Nunan. Vicki Gough is named Ballard Elementary School Principal. BMHS baseball takes number 1 seed in the 3rd district regular season. Campaign supporting Kentucky’s Great River Road makes stop at Farmers’ Market in La Center. Long-time BCES secretary Elaine Morehead retires. Judge Christopher Shea Nickell speaks at Chamber Breakfast.



Wickliffe celebrates opening of Two Rivers Fishery. Cameras aid in catching vandals in Kevil. Oscar Baptist Church builds new auditorium. Kayla Vance is hired as new Varsity Girls Basketball coach. Lisa Glisson is named Teacher of the Year.   Sarah Bohn is named Ballard County Schools Classified Employee of the Year. Randy Jerrell does well at annual Harness Racing at the Fairgrounds. Terry Hatton is named as new Wickliffe City Fire Chief. Zumba Enthusiasts join fight against Lupus at the Ballard Center. Angie Berry Woods is named as new BCES Vice Principal. Ballard County celebrates Relay for Life. Kent Gordon is appointed to fill Board of Education position left vacant by the resignation of Kim Terrell.   Ballard County deemed Storm Ready by National Weather Service.   Bandana native Courtney Stevens release first book.



Powell’s Service and Muffler Center wins Chamber Golf Scramble. Pam Sloan opens Counseling Practice in Barlow. Clay Chandler represents Region 1 at Pleasure Ridge park at the Senior East West games.   Bandana Storm Shelter unveiled at special ceremony. Work on Cairo Bridge halts semi traffic over bridge. Betty Jerrell and Beverly Bobo retire from Frist Community Bank (formerly Kevil Bank). First Community Bank President Bruce Kimbell speaks at Chamber Breakfast.   Mallie Myers crowned Miss Ballard County Fair. Local 4-H’ers Holly Doom and Elizabeth Goodin place in State 4-H Horse Show. First Community Bank Celebrates its newest location at the former Kevil Bank. Officer Tony Dunker with the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife is promoted to Sergeant.



First Community Bank sponsors lunch for staff development training day at Ballard County Schools. Several individuals are charged with manufacturing and trafficking meth in Ballard County. Damron’s Oasis holds customer appreciation day. Neighbors Unifying Ballard County hosts guest speaker Bob Arnold who promotes county unification. Ballard County Schools host annual Bomber Bash. Two Vehicle Collision causes injuries on Hwy 286 & McKendree Church Road. Judge/Executive Vickie Viniard speaks about the positives of closure of PGDP at Chamber Breakfast.

Lady Bombers Volleyball team finishes 1st in Flight 6 in the state games. Daher-TLI announces intention to establish operations in Ballard County; create 20 jobs. Two Rivers Fishery celebrates its first shipment of Asian Carp.



BMHS band marches in Labor Day Parade. Indian Hills Trading Post in Wickliffe temporarily closes due to road construction in Wickliffe and on the Cairo Bridge. Blandville celebrates “Trade Day.” Wickliffe holds annual Harvest Festival. School Board approves tax rate increase, but a technicality actually leads to decrease from the current 50.9% to 49.9 % compensating rate. Ballard Bomber football rates 9th in state. Southern States Cooperative Celebrates 90th Anniversary. Barlow celebrates “Barlow Day” with Mike and Matt Haney of Hillbilly Stills as Grand Marshalls. Randy Fondaw hosts 14th annual Country Festival at Drake lake Archery Range. Kevil author Nathan Vance publishes Detective Novel. Indian Hills in Wickliffe and Kevil change ownership.



Smokey D’s takes Reserve Champion at BBQ on the River. Judge Langford receives Outstanding Trial Judge Award. Three Ballard County residents are sentenced to Federal Prison for meth trafficking. Eddie Scotty retires from the Ballard County CO-OP. BMHS Volleyball participates in “Dig Pink” volleyball game raising money for the American Cancer Society. Greg’s Market celebrates Grand Opening. County mourns loss of long-time Veterinarian George Cunningham. Little Union Missionary Baptist Church celebrates 141 years.  Billy Bob, former jailer and sheriff of Ballard County, is honored at Wickliffe School Reunion. BMHS marching band places 13th at State Preliminary Competition. First Southern National Bank celebrates 30 years. Congressman Ed Whitfield visits KVPM.



Wickliffe City Councilman Chris Halteman resigns from council. Kentucky Mississippi River Parkway Commission wins national award. Two-vehicle collision on U.S. Hwy 60 between La Center and Kevil claims one life. Full Rut Taxidermy and Maximum Draw Products opens in former Graves Brothers Building. Tornados touch down in La Center and Kevil. First Community Bank acquires First Southern National Bank. Sandy Hart receives Patriot Award. Senator Mitch and his wife Elaine Chao visit KVPM. Author Alan Williams visits BMHS. Barlow wreck sends one to hospital via airvac. Bluegrass Restaurant holds annual Thanksgiving Dinner for Senior Citizens.




Governor Beshear welcomes Daher-TLI to Ballard County. Cindy Boulton retires from County Clerk’s offices after nearly 3 decades of service.   Ballard County is hit by ice and then snow, which causes several semi wrecks and the closure of school for 6 days due to hazardous road conditions. Town & Country in Wickliffe breaks ground on new site. Record water levels seen in county after heavy rains. Wagon Wheel Restaurant holds annual Free Christmas Dinner.
