A new face at Dr. Howard's

La Center - In late May-early June of this year, Ryan Sparks DMD joined Dr. Howard's office in La Center. Sparks graduated from the University of Kentucky in May 2014. While there, she earned her Doctorate in Medical Dentistry and also earned her Bachelors of Science in Biology. Sparks is originally from Spencer County and lived in Taylorsville, KY. Taylorsville is located between Lexington and Louisville.

While she was in Lexington, attending college, Sparks had a long distance relationship with her fiancé who lived in Paducah. After graduating from college, she and her fiancé got married; she moved to Paducah and started working for Dr. Howard in La Center.

Sparks likes working in La Center because it reminds her of Taylorsville, where she grew up. Taylorsville is a short twenty-five minute drive from Lexington. She says she likes working with the people in the community because everyone is nice and accepting. Sparks also enjoys working with children, which she says is not common among all dentists.

Sparks said that she always wanted to be in healthcare, and it wasn't until after she had seen a female dentist during her first year in college, that she considered dentistry as a profession.

When asked about working with Dr. Howard, Sparks replied, "He [Dr. Howard] is willing to teach me things I don't know." Sparks continued by saying Dr. Howard has taught her a few things that you don't learn in the classroom. Her special interests are in crowns and bridges.

When not looking at teeth or gums, Sparks likes to spend time in Paducah with her husband. Sparks says that she likes to bake and cook as well as participate in mini triathlons. However, it has been awhile since her last triathlon.
