Barlow - Despite the Lady Bombers domination with offensive runs and crosses from Senior Mid-fielder Shelby Rollins and Sophomore Mid-fielder Kylee Heal during their opening game on August 20th,  the team gave up two goals in the first half to St. Mary. What looked like a clear shot for Senior Mid-fielder Hailey Houston with the Lady Viking’s goalkeeper out of the goal, turned out to be a no-go as St. Mary’s defender promptly batted the ball away from the goal.

Shortly after Houston’s attempt, Senior Mid-fielder Millicent Green opened her 2013 scoring account in the first half by scoring the 1st goal for the Lady Bombers after having tried another attempt to score but was turned away by the Lady Viking’s keeper.

The Lady Vikings brought home another goal as the ball sailed just out of reach of Lady Bomber keeper, Jade Babb’s hands.  Determined to even the score, Houston, Rollings  and Green all took shots on goal, but none made their mark.  An unfortunate move by the Lady Bombers caused St. Mary’s Haley Eck to trip in the box, thereby giving her a PK in which she scored for the Lady Vikings.

Starting the second half down 3-1, the Lady Bombers came back with full force in an attempt to even the score only to be blasted by another goal by the Lady Vikings in the 1st minute of the second half.  This was followed by yet another goal by the Lady Vikings.

With the score at 5-1, Millicent Green brought in her second goal of the game with an assist by Senior Mid-fielder Hailey Houston.  Green followed this with another goal via a Penalty Kick, which brought the score to a closer 5-3.

Hailey Houston was determined to use her follow-through skills to score for the Lady Bombers, not once, but twice.  The first attempt came when St. Mary’s keeper went to defend the goal and fell.  Houston powered through, but she was unable to score.  Houston came close again after St. Mary’s goalkeeper dived for a ball, which sent Houston in the clear to drive it in the goal, but she still was unable to score for the Lady Bombers.

Junior forward Haley Bohn added a goal to the Lady Bombers till off of a free kick from Senior full-back Lindsey Grief, but the Lady Bombers were unable to even up the score in the last minutes of the game.  The final score for the evening was 5-4 with the Lady Vikings taking the win.
