Scholitta Burrus, 62, of Brookport died at 4:27 p.m. Sunday, November 17, 2013, at Baptist Health Paducah as a result of injuries sustained in Sunday’s tornado in Brookport. Arrangements were incomplete at Pyle Funeral Home in Johnston City.
Wanda Douglas, 76, of Metropolis died Wednesday, November 13, 2013. She was a member of the Moose Lodge, AmVets, and the American Legion Auxiliary. She is survived by two sons, John Scheuler and Larry E. Fischer; two grandchildren, Johnathan Scheuler and MeKenzie Scheuler, all of Metropolis; one brother, Carl Joiner of Port Charlotte, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Douglas; and one brother. Her parents were Cecil and Mildred (Vaughn) Joiner. Memorial services will be held later. Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Robert Harmon, 56, of Brookport died Sunday, November 17, 2013, at his home. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, November 23, 2013, at Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home in Metropolis with David LeNeave officiating. Burial will be in Hamletsburg Cemetery. Lora B. Gish, 95, died at 1 a.m. Friday at Life Care Center in LaCenter. She retired from St. Marys Hospital in Cairo, Ill. She was a member of The Eastern Star and was a member of Ohio Valley Baptist Church. She is survived by her sister, Laura Compton of La Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Gish; three brothers; and two sisters. Her parents were Ella and George Bryant. Graveside services were held Tuesday, Nov. 19th at Barlow Cemetery with Cindy Englehardt officiating. Visitation will be after 11 a.m. at Morrow Funeral Chapel in La Center. Michael Clifton Gordon, 61, died at 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 13, 2013, at his home. Mr. Gordon was a member of Victory Baptist Church in Wickliffe. He is survived by his mother, Billie Frances Cooper Gordon of Wickliffe; one sister, Linda Jane Brown of Wickliffe; one brother, Randall Gordon of Nashville, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, William O. Gordon, and one brother. Services were held Sunday, November 17, 2013, at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Wickliffe with the Revs. Larry Fraser and Daniel Fraser officiating. Burial followed in Oscar Cemetery in Ballard County. Mrs. Allene Kommer, 83, of Kevil, formerly of Metropolis, Ill., passed away at 8:30 a.m. Friday, November 15, 2013, at Southgate Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services were held Monday, November 18, 2013, at Miller Funeral Home in Metropolis. Rev. Everett Shaw will officiate. Burial followed in Metropolis Memorial Gardens. Allene worked at the Good Luck Glove Factory and retired from City National Bank, where she worked as a custodian. She attended the First Church of God in Metropolis. She loved quilting, feeding birds, and gardening. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Charles F. Kommer of Kevil; two sons, Leroy Kommer and wife Margaret of West Paducah and Bradley Kommer and wife Cheryl of Hamel, Ill.; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three sisters, Virg Lottila of Wisconsin, Katherine Hart, and Jan McDonald, both of Paducah; one brother, William Medley of Peru, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Bill and Laura Helen (Peck) Medley; three sisters, Geraldine Ross, Linda Medley, and Adell Rhodes; brother, Dick Medley; and an infant brother.
Debra “Debbie” Kay Bartnick, age 54, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, November 14, 2013, at her home in Kevil, Kentucky. She was born November 15, 1958, to the late Carl and Caroline (Schwenkhoff) Mielke. She graduated from Sauk Prairie High School. She enjoyed animals and was most recently employed as an animal groomer. She is survived by her sons, Curt (Karen) Bartnick, North Freedom, Andy (Elona) Bartnick, Sauk City; her companion, Howard Bambrough, Kevil, Ky.; her former husband, Dwight Bartnick, North Freedom; a brother, Dan (Diana) Mielke, Denzer; niece, Danette Mielke; a nephew, Dustin Mielke; her stepfather, Gene Fenske; other relatives and friends. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 21, 2013, at 11 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Leland. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until time of service. Peggy J. Keith, 76, of Cairo died Wednesday, November 13, 2013, at Baptist Health Paducah. She was a retired correctional officer for Tri County Jail in Ullin and a member of Tigert Memorial United Methodist Church. She is survived by one daughter, Belinda Schubert of Fenton, Mo.; one son, Darrin Keith of Ledbetter; one sister, Catherine Notheis of St. Louis; three brothers, Donald Johnson of Urbandale, Richard Johnson of Hazelwood, Mo., and Roy Johnson of Murietta, Calif.; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Don Earl Keith. Her parents were W. Herbert and Alma Clanton Johnson. Services were held Saturday, November 16, 2013, at Barkett Funeral Chapel with Dr. Larry L. Potts officiating. Burial followed in Spencer Heights Cemetery in Mounds.
Graveside services for Adam Wayne Sanders, 28, formerly of Kevil,were held Thursday, November 14, 2013, at Roselawn Cemetery in Bardwell. Mr. Sanders died Saturday, November 9, 2013, at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. Mr. Sanders was of the Christian faith and was a construction worker. Surviving are his father, Michael Sanders of Kevil; one sister, Shelly Sullivan of Cincinnati; and two brothers, Anthony Sanders and James Sanders of Kevil. He was preceded in death by his mother, Angela Darlene Sullivan.
