True Evelyn (Henderson) Medley, 92, of Metropolis, passed away Friday, November 29, 2013, at her residence. Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 3, 2013, at Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home in Metropolis with Larry Lunsford officiating. Burial followed in Pell Cemetery in Brookport. Mrs. Medley was a nurse for fifteen years at Massac Memorial Hospital and a member of the First Church of God in Metropolis, where she married her husband, Wayne Medley, on June 3, 1950. She did missionary work overseas with her church, was a member of the Eastern Star, and volunteered at Martha’s Vineyard. She is survived by four children, Betty Sue Smith and husband Tex of Kansas, Darlene Luton and husband David of Metropolis, Deborah Shelton and husband Bob of Reidland, Ky., and Mike Medley and his wife Spring of Metropolis; nine grandchildren, Austin Medley and his wife Trish of Metropolis, Meghan Medley and Corey of Metropolis, Dustin Medley of Metropolis, Angela Rodgers and husband Chris of Louisville, Ky., Susan Elizabeth Murrell and her husband Michael of Kansas, Amy Michelle Riddle of Candler, N.C., Lucas Damien Riddle of Metropolis, Jason Luton and wife Heather of Cadiz, Ky., and Tim Luton and wife Chanthy of Cambodia; and two great-grandchildren, Michael and Matthew Murrell of Kansas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar Turner and Flora LuVera (Darnall) Henderson; her husband of over fifty-eight years, Wayne Medley; five brothers and two sisters. Online Condolences may be left at www.aikinsfarmer-millerfh.com.

Mrs. Betty Lou Obermark, age 78, of Brookport, IL., passed away at 7:48 a.m. on Monday, December 2, 2013, at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, December 5, 2013, at Miller Funeral Home in Metropolis. Bro. Topper Council and Bro. Jimmy Franks will officiate. Burial will follow in the St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church Cemetery. Betty was a homemaker and a small business manager. She was a member of the Southland Baptist Temple in Paducah, Ky., where she was a member of Topper Council’s Sunday school class. Betty is survived by her husband of 55 years, Raymond Obermark of Brookport, Ill.; two daughters, Pamela Obermark of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Karen Gleue of Paducah, Ky.; two sons, Steven Obermark of Lone Oak, Ky., and Richard Obermark of Paducah, Ky.; six grandchildren, Lauren Obermark Shrader of Chattanooga, Tenn., Dustin Obermark of New Albany, Ind., Skyler Gleue, Preston Gleue, Spencer Gleue, and Kay Maiden, all of Paducah, Ky.; 8 nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Adolf and Virginia (Bell) Dreyer; one sister, Margaret D’Angelo; two brothers, Adolf Karl Dreyer and Adolf Allen “Sonny” Dreyer. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 5, 2013, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the Miller Funeral Home in Metropolis. Pallbearers will be Steven Obermark, Richard Obermark, Skyler Gleue, Matthew Gleue, Eric Shrader, and Johnny Hays.

Lowell D. Whitaker, age 82, passed away Sunday, Dec. 1, 2013, at his residence in LaCenter, Kentucky. He was a farmer and electrician and a member of the IBEW #852 of Corinth, MS. He enjoyed trading farm equipment and was the owner and operator of Whitaker Equipment Co. in LaCenter for nine years. Mr. Whitaker was an Army Veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of First Baptist Church of LaCenter for over 40 years. Lowell Whitaker is survived by a daughter, Necie Whitaker of Kevil; two sons, Paul Daniel Whitaker Sr. of Bandana and Jerold Alan Bowman of LaCenter; and one sister, Joyce Whitaker Brown of Eastview, TN. He leaves behind five grandchildren, Paula Whitaker, Crissey Whitaker, Paul Daniel Whitaker, Jr., Breezy Whitaker and Dyllan Simmons. He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude Wesley and Mabel Italy Howard Whitaker; and two brothers, J.C. and Charles Whitaker. Funeral services for Lowell Whitaker will be at 1:00 P.M. Steve Otis Norsworthy I, age 63 of Brookport, IL., passed away at his home on Friday, Nov. 29, 2013, after a brave fight with cancer. He was surrounded by his family. Funeral services were held December 3, 2013, at the Miller Funeral Home with Rev. Glenn Coram officiating, burial will follow in the Otterbein Cemetery in Pope Co., IL., with Military Graveside Rites. Steve is survived by his loving wife, Doris, Seven children, Loretta Williams and husband Barnes, Stacy Yates-Ward, Michelle Fairfield-Ford and Jason Shoulta, Steve Norsworthy II and Abigail Good, Autumn Fairfield and husband Shawn, James Norsworthy and Nathan Powalish; 17 grandchildren; 3 sisters, Shirley Hagan, Cheryl Ann Peek, and Sheila Giltner; A special brother in law, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his Father and mother, Woodrow Noble and Loretta Belle (Kreutzer) Norsworthy; and Step-Mother Jewell Norsworthy; One sister, Vickie Belle Powers. He was a disabled veteran of the U.S. Army having proudly served our country during the Vietnam War. He dedicated his life to the love of his life, his wife; he was a rock in the eyes of his children and a hero as a paw-paw. His unique sense of humor was legendary and his “ditty Songs” will be passed on for generations to come. His home was filled with love, laughter and acceptance. Della Mae Johnson, age 65, died at her home in Barlow Sunday morning at 5:44 a.m. Della was Director of the Barlow House Museum in Barlow, Ky., for 25 years. She was a past city commissioner and also a Kentucky Colonel. She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Floyd Johnson of Barlow; her Mother, Dorthy Blankenship of Barlow; two sons, Steve Johnson of Barlow and Warren Johnson and his wife Caroline of La Center, Ky.; One Grandson, Patrick Johnson of La Center, Ky.; Three brothers, Jimmie Blankenship of Barlow, Leslie Blankenship of Barlow, and Ricky Blankenship and his wife Toni of Barlow; Three sisters, Frieda Johnston and her husband Mike of Barlow, Sharon Wilson and her husband Brett of Wickliffe and Helen Clay and her husband Pete of Wickliffe; and numerous nieces and nephews. Della was preceded in death by her Father, Harold “Tick” Blankenship. Funeral Services will be Wednesday, December 4, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at Morrow Funeral Chapel in La Center, Ky., with William Ashley Harp officiating. Interment will follow in the Barlow Cemetery.

Mrs. Catherine Laura (Wilhide) Rice, 86, of Metropolis, Ill., passed away at 4:59 p.m. Monday, November 25, 2013, at Massac Memorial Hospital. Graveside services were held Tuesday, December 3, 2013, at Metropolis Memorial Gardens. Rev. Dr. Lynn Shurley officiated. Catherine was a member of First Baptist Church in Metropolis. She graduated with a bachelor of science in clothing and textiles from the University of North Carolina-Greensboro, N.C. Prior to her marriage, she worked as an assistant buyer for Rich’s Department Store in Atlanta; and later taught home economics for two years at the Metropolis Community High School. Catherine is survived by her two daughters, Susan Wetherington and husband Milton Sturgis Wetherington of Parker, Colo. and Catherine Trampe and husband Richard Trampe of Paducah; her three grandchildren, Laura Wetherington Weatherson and husband Lane of Colorado Springs, Colo., Philip Trampe of Chicago, Ill. and Maria Trampe Mihalko and husband Robert Mihalko of Phoenix, Ariz.; and her two great-grandchildren, Liam Weatherson and Lydia Weatherson, both of Colorado Springs, Colo. Catherine was preceded in death by her parents, Frank S. and Maude (Rowland) Wilhide; her husband, George A.
