Robert “Bobby” Newton passed away at his home in Barlow on Saturday, December 14, 2013. He was born in Barlow on February 4, 1932, to Richard and Annie Fisher Newton. He was a loving husband, devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He loved to fish, hunt and to spend time with his family. He belonged to “The Grandchildren’s Club” which had its own special language and select members. He was an avid University of Kentucky basketball fan. He retired from the United States Air Force as a Master Sergeant in March 1974 after twenty years of service to his country, and returned to his beloved Ballard County. After a brief hiatus, he began working for Union Carbide/Martin Marietta. He retired from there in 1994 after twenty years of service as an Instrument Technician. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Zona Newton; one daughter, Jina Newton Brown and husband, Charlie of Barlow; one son, Ronnie Newton and wife, Angie of Blandville; five grandchildren, Allie Starnes of Barlow, Thomas Newton of Gage, Christina Newton of Gage, Justin Starnes and wife, Chelsea of Norfolk, VA., and Gwendolyn Newton of Barlow; one great-grandson, Cayden Starnes of Norfolk, VA.; one sister, Lois Lamkin of Barlow; his mother-in-law, Stella Kissiar of LaCenter; and many special nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Annie Fisher Newton; three brothers, James, Wyatt, and R.J. Newton; and three sisters, Margaret Tharp, Annabell Ivy, and Sally Duncan. Funeral services for Robert Newton will be Wednesday, December 18, 2013, at 11:00 A.M. at Morrow Funeral Chapel of La Center with full military honors. Marty Logsdon, Rev. DeWayne Chadwick and Rev. Scott Fickes will be officiating. Interment will follow at Barlow Cemetery in Barlow, KY. Visitation will be at Morrow Funeral Chapel of La Center on Tuesday, December 17, beginning at 5:00 P.M. and prior to the funeral service on Wednesday. Luola Simmons, 90, of Barlow died at 8:32 p.m. Friday, December 13, 2013, at Life Care Center in La Center. She was a hairdresser in Grahamville for several years and was a volunteer for His House and Life Care Center in La Center. She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, Herbert Ward Simmons; one son, Ronnie Earles of Florida; one daughter, Anita Throgmorton of Paducah; eight grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers. Her parents were Jim and Quilla Johnson. Services were held Tuesday, December 17, 2013, at Morrow Funeral Chapel in La Center with the Revs. Robert Bickford and Keith Tilford officiating. Burial followed at Maplelawn Cemetery. Mrs. Belinda Kay Schneider, age 64, of Metropolis, passed away at 10:40 a.m. on Wednesday, December 11, 2013, at her home. Funeral services were held Sunday, December 15, 2013, at the Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home. John Schneider officiating. Burial followed in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Metropolis. Belinda was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church. She had worked as a Licensed Beautician and retired from the County Extension Office as a Community Worker. Belinda is survived by her husband, Robert V. Schneider of Metropolis; 1 daughter, Elizabeth Durbin and her husband Tracy of Almo, KY.; 2 sons, John Schneider and wife Orleta of Cape Girardeau, MO., and Mark Schneider and wife Emily of Brookport; 6 grandchildren, Elysa Elkins and husband Jamie, Shelby Durbin, Gracen and Avery Rayfield, Zavier Schneider and Brianna Norin; 2 great-grandchildren, Chloe and Will. She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Geneva Guice. Billie Jo Stoker, 84, of Metropolis, Ill., passed away Sunday, December 8, 2013, at Lourdes hospital. Funeral services were held on Saturday, December 14, 2013, at Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home in Metropolis. Pastor Mike Hardison officiating. Burial followed in the Golconda I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Born in Golconda, Ill., to N.R. and Mamie Scott, who preceded her in death, she graduated from Lakeview High School at the age of 16 in Akron, Ohio, before moving to Metropolis, Ill. Billie was employed by the Hudson car dealership and later the Studebaker dealership in Metropolis before going to work for Union Carbide in Paducah, Ky. Married for more than 25 years to Charles Stoker, she lived in Marion and worked for Curtis & Ross accounting firm in Carbondale. In 1976, she moved to Chicago, Ill., where she worked as an executive secretary for Horwath & Horwath (Touche Ross) accounting until her retirement in 1993, when she returned to southern Illinois. She was a member of Community Christian Church in Metropolis. Ms. Stoker is survived by her brother, Charles Scott and sister-in-law Valerie Scott of Larkspur, Colo.; along with beloved niece, Kelley Brewster, and grandniece, Ella Brewster, of Escondido, Calif.
