Jewell K. Hafford, 73, of Cairo died Thursday, December 26, 2013, at Daystar Care Center in Cairo. She was a retired sales clerk for Kress & Co. and was of the Protestant faith. She is survived by her daughter, Paula K. Hafford of Cobden, Ill., and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Hafford. Her parents were Charles and Ruth Lindsey Watkins. Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 3, 2014, at Spencer Heights Cemetery in Mounds with the Rev. Buddy Walls officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Daystar Care Center in her memory. The Barkett Funeral Home in Cairo is in charge of arrangements.

Gary Lynn Sullivan, 54, of Wickliffe, died at 12:45 p.m. Sunday, December 22, 2013, near J. Johnson Road in Barlow. He was a member of Full Gospel Temple in Wickliffe. He is survived by two brothers, Mike Sullivan of Barlow and Mark Sullivan of West Paducah; and two sisters, Debbie Wilmoth and Norma Freeman, both of Wickliffe. He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister. His parents were Auther Lee "Demp" and Bobbie Norment Sullivan. Services were held Thursday, December 26, 2013, at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Wickliffe with the Rev. Dee Hazlewood officiating. Burial followed in North Ballard Cemetery.

Donald R. Butler, age 80, of La Center died 4:30 a.m. December 29, 2013 at Lourdes Hospital in Paducah. Don was an army veteran and of the Baptist faith. Don survived by his wife Beulah Butler of La Center two sons, Jim (Daisy) Beasley of Kevil, Brian (Kathy) Beasley of Paducah one daughter Donna (Michael) Bass of Bandana, one sister Thelma Fleming of Paducah. Don is survived by six Grandchildren, Boogie (Laura) Butler Dyersburg, Tn., Jerry (Anita) Beasley of La Center, Landon Butler of Nashville, Tn., Michelle (Greg) Strak of Benton, Ky. Mindy (Kevin) Newman of Paducah, Ky., Tammy (Allen) Singleton of Kevil, Ky., 8 Great Crandchildren and 3 Great Great Grandchildren. Don was preceded in death by his parents Harley Butler Sr. & Bessie Levil Butler one daughter Jeanette Ann Lynn two brothers Harley L. Butler Jr., Melvin E. Butler. Funeral Services for Don will be Tuesday December 31, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Morrow Funeral Chapel in La Center with visitation starting at 9:00 a.m. Tuesday morning at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to Lourdes Hospice Foundation P.O. Box 7100 Paducah, Ky. 42002-9961. Morrow Funeral Chapel of La Center is in charge of arrangement. 

Lyndel Piper, age 80, died on Friday Evening, December 27, 2013 at 9:15 p.m. at Baptist Health in Paducah. Lyndel was a member of La Center Christian Church.  He was and Army Veteran of the Korean War.  Lyndel Farmed in Ballard County, he was an Iron Worker, and in his retirement years worked as a truck driver.  He was a member of VFW of Ballard County. He is survived by one brother Neil Piper and his wife Nancy of La Center, Barvia Piper of La Center, and Joyce Weller and her husband Jim of Tonta, Arizona. One nephew Randy Moore, five nieces Lynne Thomas and her husband Mike, Tammie Edwards and her husband Mark, Tina McMahan and her husband Tom, Stephanie Hook, and Renee Reid and her husband Clayton.  Several Great nieces and nephews and one Great-Great Niece. Lyndel was preceded in death by his parents, Noble and Lucille Sparks Piper, one brother Noble Piper Jr. and one Great Nephew Ryan Edwards. Funeral Services were held Monday, December 30, 2013, at Morrow Funeral Chapel in La Center with the Rev. Perlene Stone Davidson went home to be with her Lord and Savior Saturday, December 21, 2013 at 7:40 p.m. at Lourdes Hospital in Paducah, Ky. Perlene was a faithful member of Fairview Baptist Church in La Center. Perlene is survived by her daughter Carolyn (Sammy) McManus of Kevil, stepson James (Pam) Kindle from Fremount, Ohio, a God Daughter Lakeisha (Nikki) Yates of Nashville, Tennessee, two brothers, Owen Davis (O.D.) Heady of Paducah, Nathaniel (Mary Nell) Heady of Bandana. two grandsons Jamal and Nichols Kindle and a Host of nieces and nephews. Perlene was proceeded in death by her husbands, R.D. Stone & George Davidson, her parents Bud & Angie Meriweather Heady, one brother John C. Heady. Services were held December 28, 2013 at Fairview Baptist Church in La Center.  Officiating was Minister Grayling Baucom, Associate Pastor of Fairview Baptist Church and Minister Rodney Hill, Senior Pastor of Fairview Baptist Church, Committal-Interment-Benediction followed at Oak Grove Cemetery in Kevil Ky. In lieu of flowers donations to Fairview Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 510, La Center, Ky. 42056. Arrangements entrusted to Morrow Funeral Chapel of La Center.

James Edward Long, 93, of Ragland died Sunday in Kevil. Arrangements were incomplete at Lindsey Funeral Home in Paducah.

Brenda Wheatley, 65, of Paducah, formerly of Ballard County, died at 10:50 a.m. Tuesday, December 24, 2013, at Lourdes hospital. She was a doctor of psychology and worked as a counselor for Genesis. She served as the first female mayor of Bardwell and was of the Catholic faith. She is survived by her husband, David Wheatley; one daughter, Lorry Beth Wilson of La Center; one son, Jake Douglas of Murray; one stepson, Larry Keith Morris of Harrisburg, Ill.; and six grandchildren. Her parents were David Keith Caughlin and Mary Elizabeth Felts Caughlin. No services are scheduled. Keeling Family Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Richard Green, 61, Metropolis died at 6:30 a.m. Friday, December 27, 2013, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Marion. He was a member of House of Hope Ministries and a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Vietnam era. He was employed for many years at United Home Furnishings in Paducah. He is survived by two sisters, Cheryl Vanderford and Kimberly Smith, both of Brookport; two brothers, Earnest Green of Brookport and Steve Green of Paducah; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Brittney Nicole Reid; two brothers and one sister. His parents were Emmitt Richard Green and Mary Lydia Wimberly Green. Services will be at noon Tuesday, December 31, 2013, at Pettus-Rowland Funeral Home with Rev. Michael Wade officiating. Burial will follow at Masonic Cemetery in Metropolis.

Pearl M. Vaughn, 91, of Cairo died at 10:35 p.m. Thursday, December 26, 2013, at Ratliffe Nursing Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo. She was a seamstress at the M. Snower Company before her retirement. She was a member of First Southern Baptist Church and Order of Eastern Star. She is survived by one daughter, Jackie Phillips of Mounds; two sons, Gary M. Vaughn of Mounds and Arland Vaughn of Paducah; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Martin Vaughn. Her parents were Herman and Ida Chapman McGinnis. Services were held Monday, December 30, 2013, at Barkett Funeral Home in Cairo with the Rev. Tom Hoskins officiating. Burial will follow in U.S. National Cemetery in Mound City. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.
