Ada A. Whipple Gilliam, age 96, died at 12:16 a.m. Tuesday morning at Life Care Center in La Center. Ada was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in La Center, she was a charter member of the Ballard County Country Club. Ada was an avid Bridge Player. She was retired from Whipples Food Market. Ada is survived by one son Joe Brooks Wipple and his wife Leah of La Center. Two Grandaughters Caroline Johnson and her husband Warren of La Center, and Rebecca Whipple of Nashville, Tn., two Grandsons Wesley Whipple and his wife April of Paducah, and Tony Whipple of Louisville, Ky.  One Great Grandson Patrick Allen Johnson of La Center, Ky.  One sister Grace Solomon of Clarksville, Tn. and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents James Allen and Bertha Melton Ashbrook, her first husband James D. Whipple, her second husband Arnette Gilliam,  one brother Joe Ashbrook, one son Allen Whipple, and one Grandson James M. Whipple. Funeral Services were held Thursday, June 12, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Morrow Funeral Chapel in La Center with the Rev. Jamie Lee officiating.  Interment will follow at the La Center Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be sent to Grace United Methodist Church Building Fund P.O. Box 330 La Center, Ky. 42056. Morrow Funeral Chapel is handling arrangements.

Vernelle Mesey, 86, of Metropolis died Friday, June 13, 2014, at Southgate Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Arrangements were incomplete at Lindsey Funeral Home.

Franklin Kelly Pierce Sr. age 90, of Paducah, passed away peacefully at 10:10pm Thursday, June 12, 2014 at Lourdes Hospital in Paducah.  He was surrounded and supported by his loving family. He was a member of McKendree United Methodist Church, a member of the Boilermaker’s Union #40, he retired from Shawnee Steam Plant, he was a member of the Masonic Lodge #449 for over 50 years and was a World War II veteran serving in the European and Pacific theater earning 2 bronze stars while serving in the US Army. He is survived by two sons, Franklin K. Pierce Jr. of Smithland and Robert (Paula) W. Pierce of Paducah; two daughters, Betty (Mike) Jones of Paducah and Regina (John) Pearson of Paducah; eight grandchildren, Jon Pierce, Doyan Pierce, Todd Hiett, Jennifer Partin, Jarod Pierce, Sarah VanMeter, Kellie Rodgers and Kim Strickland; ten great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by the love of his life of 62 years, Mary Jane Lowery Pierce; his parents, Robert & Vivian Kelly Pierce; two daughters, Onetia Jacobs and Mary Ann Pierce; one brother, William Ellis Pierce and one grandson. Funeral services were held Monday, June 16, 2014 at the Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah with Rev. Bill Miller officiating. Burial and Military Rites followed at Maplelawn Park Cemetery in Paducah.
