Iris Faye (Severs) Anderson, 81, of Cairo, formerly of Ullin, died at 6:24 a.m. Wednesday, June 18, 2014, at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. She was a member of Mighty Rivers Worship Center in Cairo and a homemaker. She is survived by one son, Kevin Anderson of Murphysboro; four grandchildren, Chris Davault, Jade Anderson, Meagan Reichrath, and Jocelyn Tucker; one great-grandson, Braeden Farmer, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence O. Anderson; several brothers and sisters; and one daughter. Her parents were George Severs and Emma (Johnson) Severs. Services were held Friday, June 20, 2014, at Jones Funeral Home in Villa Ridge with Dr. Larry L. Potts officiating. Interment will follow in Ullin Cemetery. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until noon Friday at the funeral home.
Martha Kibler, 86, of Metropolis, Ill., died Tuesday, June 17, 2014, at her daughter's residence in Lone Oak, Ky. Mrs. Kibler was a kindergarten teacher for 25 years and a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Paducah, Ky. She was an avid quilter and also a member of both the Metropolis and Paducah Quilt Clubs. She is survived by her daughters, Sally Flynn of Lone Oak and Susan Calhoun of Lone Oak; four grandchildren, Jody Carroll of Phenix, Ala., Sara Carroll Jiminez of Orlando, Fla., and Kristen Calhoun and Travis Calhoun, both of Lone Oak; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wendell Kibler; her parents, Owen Teddy and Bernice Myers; two brothers; and two sisters. Memorial service was held Monday, June 23, 2014, at 5:30 p.m. at Immanuel Baptist Church in Paducah.
Barbara J. Hoppe, 81, of Cairo, Ill., passed away surrounded by her loving children Tuesday, June 17, 2014, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau. She was born on January 30, 1933, in Alexander County, Illinois, the daughter of Lola Singleton Nardi. She was one of 16 children. She was raised in Cairo by her grandparents, Ralph and Marie Hawkins. She married Herschel G. Hoppe on September 3, 1946. He preceded her in death on February 1, 1993. Most of Barbara's life was spent in Cairo. She was a wonderful mother, a kind and generous person that was always willing to help whenever and wherever it was needed. Those that knew Barbara will remember that she always had a smile on her face. She was of the Baptist faith. Barbara worked for 28 years at Snower's Manufacturing Company and for many years at the Elks Lodge, both in Cairo. She is survived by three daughters, Loretta Hilt of Cairo, Mary Fiessinger (Steve) of Barlow, Ky., and Donna Farris (Paul) of Cape Girardeau; one son, Darrell Hoppe (Pam) of Cairo; ten grandchildren, Michelle Bourland, Lisa Garrett, Chad Burns, Stephanie Cooper, Annalisa Lee, Amy Simpson, George B. Thompson IV, John Paul Farris, David Hoppe and Derek Hoppe; 13 great-grandchildren, Erik Frayser, Kelsey Bodhe, Emily Corry, Tacey and Alissa Burns, Peyton, Taylor and Madison Cooper, Reed and Bailey Lee, Sydney Simpson, Tyler Thompson and Alissa Farris; and three great-great-grandchildren, Madyson Bodhe, Miley Pitcher and Bryson Frayser. Also surviving are several brothers; sisters; nieces; nephews; other relatives; and many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband; her mother; her grandparents; one son, Glen Hoppe; and one son-in-law, Tom Hilt. Graveside funeral services for Barbara Hoppe were held Friday, June 20 at Green Lawn Memorial Gardens in Villa Ridge, Illinois with Pastor Kim Nelson officiating. Crain Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions can be made to: the Lutheran Home and will be accepted at the funeral home or cemetery.
Christina Evelyn Duncan, age 94, died at Parkview Nursing and Rehabilitaiton in Paducah Monday Evening. She was a member of Barlow United Methodist Church. Christina was formerly of Cairo, Illinois. Christina is survived by two sons Carl Tanksley of Granite City, Illinois, and Kenneth Tanksley of Quitman, Texas. Five Daughters Carlene Haney of Paducah, Ky, Estella Hoover of Largo, Florida, Donna Purvis of West Paducah, Ky. Janet Evans of Kevil, Ky.and Deborah Staples of Benton, Ky. Two Brothers Ernest Marrs of West Union, West Virginia and Carl Marrs of Aurora, Colorado, one sister Edna Hipps of Cape Giradeau, Missouri. Thirteen Grandchildren, Twenty Four Great Grandchildren and Seven Great Great Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband H.M. Duncan, one daughter Mary Tanksley, Three brothers, three sisters, and three Grandchildren. Her parents were John and Hattie Marr. Funeral Services were Thursday, June 19th at Morrow Funeral Chapel in La Center with the Rev. Tony Schaeffer officiating. Interment followed at the Barlow Cemetery.
