Peter Ryan Gasser 62, Ballard Memorial High School 1970 passed away in New York City on July 16, a memorial service was held Monday July 21 at Castle Hill Funeral Home in the Bronx. He Leaves behind a son Matthew, A sister Peggy Seward Gasser Sagui, and a sister Fran Gasser.
Mrs. Boazie “May Boaz” Simmons age 94, of Murray, Kentucky, died Sunday, July 20, 2014, at the Spring Creek Health Care in Murray, Kentucky. Mrs. Simmons was born October 4, 1919 in Wickliffe, Kentucky, to the late Richard and Della May Boaz Cocke. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Frances Richey, and Virginia Everette, three brothers, Dr. Richard I. Cocke, John G. Cocke, and Bob Cocke. Boazie is known for her passion of teaching, whether in the classroom or Sunday school class. For forty years, she was a passionate teacher, with the last seventeen years being in the School of Business at Murray State University. She was a dedicated and disciplined bible school teacher at her beloved First Baptist Church. Through the years, many called upon Boazie for her wise counsel and straight to the point advice. She was always there for her family to encourage, lend support, and always communicate her love. Due to her keen mind and attention to details she was a walking history book when it came to the lives of family and friends. Her legacy of Faith and Family will be lived out through her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Survivors include one son, Steve Simmons and wife Cindy of Marion, Illinois, three daughters, Kathy S. Lair and husband Bill of Hermitage, Tennessee, Celia S. Reeder and husband Bob of Charlotte, North Carolina, Kameil S. Hopkins and husband David of Brentwood, Tennessee, also eight grandchildren, Jameson Reeder, Joshua Reeder, Justin Reeder, Rob G. Gingles, Hunter Gingles, Ashley Ponder, Courtney Crook, Ellen Boaz Prinzi, also nine great grandchildren survive. Funeral service will be held 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home, Rev. Boyd Smith will officiate, and burial will follow in the Murray Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 23, 2014 from 11 a.m. till 1 p.m. at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home.
Cecil Mize, 79, of Wickliffe died at 12:40 a.m. Saturday, July 19, 2014, at Lourdes hospital. He was a member of Bardwell Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. For over 40 years he was a butcher, having worked in several places across the area and eventually retiring from Rodney's IGA. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ruth Pettit Mize, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers. His parents were Phillip and Loraine Farnsworth Mize. Services were held Tuesday, July 22, 2014, at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Wickliffe with Rev. Rodney Bice officiating. Burial followed in Bethlehem Church Cemetery. Friends may call after 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Billy Gene White, age 75, died Thursday, July 17th morning at 3:30 a.m. at Life Care Center of La Center, Ky. Billy was a member of Spring Bayou Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for many years. He was employed for 21 years at Modine in Paducah. Billy owned and operated Bills Body Shop in Kevil, Ky., until he retired. Billy is survived by his wife, Peggy White of Kevil, Ky.; one son, Greg White and his wife Sheree of Kevil, Ky.; three grandchildren, Ashley White of Paducah, Ky., Brandon White of Kevil, Ky., and Camryn White of Kevil, Ky.; and two sisters, Martha Alford of Paducah, Ky., and Madalene Anderson of Vienna, Ill. A special thank you to Marcalene Holt and Michelle Cooper for their care of Bill. Also, a special thanks to the loving and caring staff of Life Care Center of LaCenter, Ky. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Junior White and Dale White; and his parents, Henry and Ethel White. Funeral services were held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Spring Bayou Baptist Church with the Rev. Terry Tipton officiating. Interment will follow at Spring Bayou Baptist Church Cemetery. Scotty Burr, 26, of Brookport, passed away on Tuesday, July 15, 2014, at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn. Scotty worked at Ingram Barge in Paducah, and loved spending time either hunting, fishing or riding horses. Funeral Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 23, 2014, at The Brookport Funeral Home. Scotty is survived by his sister, Kayla Burr of Brookport; his father, Stephen Lewis of Brookport; his grandparents, Ronnie and Sue Bradley of Karnak, Ill., his grandfather, Jim Burr of St. Regis, Mont.; a very special niece, Anslee Harrell of Brookport; uncles, Jeff Collier of Paducah, Deon Burr of Paducah, Nathan Burr of St. Regis, Mont., Donald Lewis of Brookport, and Billy Lewis of Vienna; as well as two aunts, Becky Elliot of Vienna, and Cassie Kent of Paducah; and many cousins and friends. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 22, 2014, at the Brookport Funeral Home. Aikins Farmer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Cherry Lane Hemphill, 53, of Metropolis died at 7:55 a.m. Wednesday, July 16, 2014, at Lourdes hospital in Paducah. She is survived by her brother, Lon Hemphill of Golconda; two sisters, Alberta Robbins of Metropolis, and Alice Stafford of Vienna; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one brother. Her parents were Hartford and Lydia (Garner) Hemphill. Private family graveside services were held on Saturday, July 19, 2014, at New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery in Massac County. Miller Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
