Leona Mae, mostly known as Mae has received her wings in heaven on 7/17/2014 in Hesperia, CA. Mae was born on Jan. 5,1954 in Cairo, IL. to Billy Gee and Delores Stratton, and daughter in law of Lonnie “Preacher” and Bee Crews who has proceeded in death. Mae was a very devoted wife to Phillip E. Crews who cherished her for over 37 yrs. During their wonderful marriage they have lived in KY and CA. Mae was the most amazing mother to her only child, Tammy Renae Crews who will miss her mommy more than words can say. Mae was also the best Granny Mae that a child could have to Derrin, Brea, Teron, Genesis, Isaac, and youngest grandchild Tamryn Leona. Mae was also very loved by her only sister Linda Kaye and brother in law Tommy Crews of Wickliffe, KY. They share 3 very loved children, Billy, Angela, and Jason. Mae also has 3 brothers that have preceded in death. Leona Mae Crews has left us way too soon. We as her loved ones have gained a beautiful angel in the Heavens above.

Charles D. Vail, 92, of Kevil, Ky., died Sunday, July 20, 2014, at 5:15 p.m. at his residence. Charles attended McKendree United Methodist Church and was a native of East Alton, Ill. He was a veteran of U.S. Navy, a member of Civil Air Patrol and a member of Instrument Society of America. Charles retired from GAF as an Instrument Mechanic. He enjoyed woodworking, watching wildlife that came into his yard and birds. Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Betty Vail; one daughter, Cheryl Rambo of Boaz, Ky.; three sons, James A. Vail and wife Barb of Elizabethtown, Ky., Raymond H. Vail and wife Nancy of Sullivan, Ind., and Richard K. Vail and wife Robin of Burlington, Wisc.; one sister, Helen Ursula of Wood River, Ill.; eleven grandchildren, Rita (Nick) Davis, Katherine Vail, Teresa (Kurt) Hall, James L. Vail, Julie (Ben) Dowell, Jason (Tammy) Vail, Kevin (Sarah) Vail, Matt Vail, Sunny (Will) Debelak, Deanna (Jeff) Miller, and Melissa Kilgore; fourteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding in death were parents, Hugh Vail and Alma Loreen Book Vail; son-in-law, Kenneth Rambo; grandson, Tanner McQuiston; grandson-in-law, Jesse Kilgore; granddaughter, Sarah Vail; and two brothers, Ralph Vail and Raymond Vail. Graveside services were held Thursday, July 24, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens with Rev. Phyllis Ann Sadler, 70 of Kevil, passed away at 5:05 a.m. Saturday July 26, 2014 at Lourdes Hospital. Arrangements are incomplete at Lone Oak Chapel of Milner & Orr Funeral Home.

Eva Marie Stanton, 91, of Metropolis, IL., died Sunday, July 27, at 6:06 a.m. at Baptist Health Paducah in Paducah, KY. She was born November 22, 1922, in Lake Linden, MI., to Fred and Anna Koski. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 31, 2014, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Metropolis with Rev. David Deem officiating. Burial will follow in the Metropolis Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Stanton was a special education teacher with Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Southern Illinois University where she was graduated summa cum laude. She retired from Massac Unit School District #1 and continued to substitute teach. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where she was involved in WELCA and a member of the morning Bible class. She was a member of the Retired Teacher's Association, a past president and member of Delta Theta Tau Sorority and a member of Pi Lambda Theta Tau Honor Society. Eva is survived by her three sons, Michael (Mary) of Bloomington, IL., John (Yvonne) of Metropolis, and Robert of Mayfield, KY.; and two daughters, Mary (Eddie) Seay of Mayfield and Kathy (Joe) Evanko of West Paducah; 7 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Jennie Nordbeck of Minnesota and Helen Lund of Michigan; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 62 years, Larry Stanton who passed in 2009; brothers, Fred, William, Kaarlo and Reuben Koski; sisters, Katherine Putansu, Eleanor Juntunen, Mildred Johnson, Aileen Normand and May Fraatz. Visitation will be held Wednesday evening, July 30, 2014, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home and on Thursday morning, July 31st at the St. Paul Lutheran Church from 9:00 a.m. until the funeral hour at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 520 Ferry Street, Metropolis, IL 62960. Online Condolences may be left at www.aikinsfarmer-millerfh.com.

Helen Johnston, age 91, of Metropolis, IL, passed away Saturday, July 26, 2014, at her daughter's home. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, July 30, 2014, at the Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home with Delbert Sullivan and John Haverkamp officiating. Burial will follow in the Metropolis Memorial Gardens. Helen is survived by her daughter, Debbie Rehlmeyer and husband Fred of Metropolis; 2 grandchildren, Kim Lang and husband Junior and Brad Rehlmeyer and wife Shannon, both of Metropolis; 3 great-grandchildren, Logan Lang, Stefan Rehlmeyer and Bryn Rehlmeyer; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Emma (Logeman) Haverkamp; husband, Leslie Johnston; and 3 brothers, Roy, Cecil "Dutch," and Howard Haverkamp. Visitation will be held from noon until the funeral hour at the Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home. Online condolences may be left at www.aikinsfarmer-millerfh.com.
