Don Cashan, 54, of Kevil, KY, formerly of Cairo, died Saturday night, July 11, 2015, en route to Baptist Health in Paducah. Don was born September 3, 1960, in Cairo, the son of Donnie and Lela (Franklin) Cashan. He had worked as a roofer and a member of Local 319 in Michigan. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge. Don is survived by his son, Joe Don (Destinie) of Cairo; granddaughter, Madison Cashan of Cairo; mother, Lela Cashan (Bobby Byassee) of Kevil, KY; uncles and aunts, Paul and Linda Franklin, Bill and Joann Rodgers, Judy Hughes, Lisa Darnell; great aunt, Mary Houston; great uncle, Charles Stiff; good friend, Sharon Tombs; nephews, Nate and Jason Cashan; nieces, Marissa and Courtney Cashan; cousin, Leslie Houston; friend, Delores Flanary; 2 sister-in-laws, Nickie and Renee Cashan. He is preceded in death by his father; brother, Jason Cashan (2009); grandmother, Quida Franklin. Visitation was held Wednesday, July 15, 2015, at the Crain Funeral Home in Cairo. Services for Carl Edward "Johnny" Thomas, 77, of Cairo were held Monday, July 13, 2015, at Crain Funeral Home in Cairo. The Rev. Larry Potts will officiate. Burial will be in Mound City National Cemetery with military rites conducted. Mr. Thomas died Sunday, July 5, 2015. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and worked for Cairo Public Utility for 37 years as chief operator of the waste water treatment facility. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Donna Rothchild Thomas; two daughters, Karla Shaffer of Wentzville, Missouri, and Kara Hubbard of Grand Chain; four sons, John Kevin Thomas of Metropolis, Kent Thomas of Millington, Tennessee, Kyle Thomas of Kevil, Kentucky, and Keith Thomas of Metropolis; 12 grandchildren; one sister, Barbara Thomas of Paducah; one brother, Howard Thomas Jr. of Rossville, Georgia, and several cousins, nieces and nephews. Mary Elizabeth Kelley Engler, 92, of Heath/Kevil, Kentucky, died Saturday, July 11, 2015. Mary was born on Kelley Road in McCracken County on May 14, 1923, to the late Francis Edward Kelley and Mary Jewel Moore Kelley. She was a graduate of Heath High School. She was preceded in death by her son, Michael Dale Carlin of Las Vegas, Nevada; her younger sister, Treva Nell Kelley Courter; and older brother, James Edward Kelley, both of Heath area. She is survived by one brother and his wife, Robert and Eva Kelley; and several nieces and nephews. Mary was a 20-year employee of Southern Textile Machinery Company where she served as Industrial Relations Director. In 1970 she left Southern Textile and became the first inside saleswoman for Henry A. Petter Supply Company. She also received her real estate broker's license and began her own company with two salespersons. She retired from Petter's in 1987 and in 1990 retired her brokers license and retired the office of Rottgering Reality. Mary was a past member of Paducah Area Industrial Relations Club and American Personnel Industrial Association. In 1964-65, she served as a committee member of the Governor's Commission on The Status of Women. She was commissioned a Kentucky Colonel. Mary was a member of McKendree United Methodist Church. She loved plants and flowers, and was an avid gardener. After her retirement, she started a business of selling herbs, day lilies, iris and hosta, which she sold locally as well as on the Internet. She enjoyed sharing her gardens with visitors and often spoke to garden clubs, groups of visiting gardeners and nursing homes. Mary entrusted her body to the University of Louisville, Health Sciences Center, School of Medicine.
The remains will be placed along side son, Dale, in the Kelley Bald Knob Cemetery. Ronald Giles, age 75, died Tuesday afternoon at 4:58 p.m. at LaCenter, KY. Ronald retired from Graves Brothers Plumbing and Heating after 40 years of service. He was a member of Ohio Valley Baptist Church where he served as Deacon and Sunday School Teacher for many years. He attended LaCenter First Baptist Church.
He is survived by one son Ronnie Giles of Barlow, Ky. One daughter Panama Ward of Wickliffe, Ky. Four sisters Fathie Guffy of Dallas, Texas, Roxie Sanders of
Brookport, Illinois, Janet Price of Houston, Texas, and Phyliss Golightly olf East Prairie, Missouri. Ronald was preceded in death by his wife Yolanda Giles, one daughter Loraine Dixon, three brothers and his parents Robert and Lurine Giles. Reba Faye Greene, 70, of White Bluff, Tennessee, died at 9:45 a.m.Saturday July 11, 2015, at Residential Alive Hospice in Nashville, Tennessee. She had worked for Johnson & Johnson of Wilmington, Illinois, and was a member of Main Street Baptist Church in Braidwood, Illinois. She is survived by her daughter, Lisa Rock of Waverly, Tennessee; her sons, Mark Greene of Clarksville, Tennessee, Gary Haws of Greenwood, Indiana, and Isaac Greene of White Bluff, Tennessee; her sisters, Vicki Jessie of Bargersville, Indiana, and Peggy Bliven of Jackson, Michigan; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one sister and one brother. Her parents were Aubrey Beasley and Naomia Logsdon Staats. Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 15, 2015, at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Wickliffe with the Rev. Larry Logsdon officiating. Burial will be in Barlow Cemetery. Robert Arnold Cole, age 81, died Tuesday afternoon at Life Care Center in La Center, Ky. Robert retired from Lockheed Martin after 29 years of service. He was an Army Veteran. He is survived by one son Grayling Baucom of Kevil, Ky., Five Grandchildren and nine Great Grandchildren. Robert was preceded in death by his wife Hazel Cole, four brothers and three sisters. His parents were Frank and Celila Cole. Memorial Service were held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday at Morrow Funeral Chapel in La Center with Pastor Rodney Hill, Senior Pastor at Fairview Baptist Church in La Center, KY officiating.
