The patient said, “Doctor, don’t give me any big medical terms. Just tell me in plain terms what is wrong with me.”
The Doctor replied, “In plain English, you are a worry wart!”
Anxiety is the official emotion of our age. New inventions, modern technology, and rapid changes make it difficult to keep up. People anxiously wonder what the future holds. Mass media makes us immediately aware of troubles around the world! Good news is seldom reported. Bad news makes better headlines and is more profitable. People get the news and bite their fingernails in anxiety.
Anxiety causes many physical reactions. “Butterflies” in the stomach and the “lump” in the throat are usually anxious reactions.
A Chronic case of anxiety will cause ulcers and hyper-tension. One doctor said, “Ulcers are not caused by what you eat, but rather by what’s eating you.”
In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus tells us not to be anxious about anything. He said we are to seek the Kingdom of God first and He will take care of other things.
Paul tells us to make our request known to God, and He will set up a guard of peace about our hearts and minds. (Phil. 4: 6-7)
Peter says we should cast all our cares on the Lord for He cares for us. (1 Peter 5:7)
John tells us perfect love casts out fear. (1 John 4:18)
The answer for anxiety is found in God’s word, in prayer, and in a personal relationship and walk with the Lord Jesus Christ.
