Each year, First Kentucky Bank employees choose a “Charity of Choice”. Feeding America is the chosen charity for 2013. Feeding America is the nation’s leading domestic hunger-relief charity and supplies more than 3 billion pounds of food and grocery products annually.
Tamara Brindley, Human Resources Officer, stated, “Through the efforts of our employees and their willingness to donate via payroll deduction, we will be able to provide weekly food for over 200 children this year.”
First Kentucky’s donation will be distributed among children attending schools in the counties in which First Kentucky Bank has locations.
An initial $10,000 donation was made which will be followed by a second donation in January 2014. According to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), 16.7 million children under 18 in the United States live in a condition referred to as “food insecurity,” which means they do not always know where they will find their next meal. In addition, the lack of sufficient nutrition places children at risk for illness and weakens their immune system.
For children ages 0-5, immature immune systems make them vulnerable to nutritional deprivation. As a result, the ability to learn, grow, and fight infections is adversely affected.
Pictured are local Youth Services personnel and Family Resource Center Coordinators who came to show their appreciation for the much needed donation. Mary Anne Medlock, Public Relations Officer for the Purchase Area Development District, commented, “We are so thankful for this donation. We are blessed to have businesses that care enough about our children to make a difference.”
