Coming out of a shutout (0-8 loss) to Paducah Tilghman on Monday, September 30th to go a second time around with Lyon County on Tuesday, Oct. 1st, the Bombers walked away smiling as they beat the Lyons 7-3.
The Bombers’ last contest with Lyon County was back on August 29th at a home game that ended with a tied score of 2-2.
Within the first 5 minutes of play, Senior forward Clayton Walker scored two goals and was well on his way to a hat trick that came just under 15 minutes into the game when Walker made a goal off of a corner shot right after a clean pass to him by Junior midfielder Austin Waters.
Lyon County’s Tyler Wilson scored 2 goals for the Lyons just 5 minutes apart, but Walker answered those goals with yet another one, bringing the score to 4-2. With just under 2 minutes left in the half, Lyon County’s Tristian Vagts took advantage of Ballard keeper Josh Moss being out of the goal and earned one more goal for Lyon County, bringing the score to 4-3 with Ballard Memorial in the lead.
The second half saw no more scoring for the Lyons, but Ballard Memorial added 3 more goals to their scoring account. This was off of 2 more goals scored by Clayton Walker, which gave him his second hat trick of the evening. Theerapat “Nice” Watsamrong scored the other goal for Ballard, bringing the final score for the contest to 7-3 with Ballard Memorial taking the win.
The Bombers third contest of the week didn’t go as well as did their match with Lyon County. Taking on Massac County for the second time after having suffered a 0-9 shut-out to them on September 5th, the Bombers had hoped this time would be different. Unfortunately, the Patriots had plans of their own.
Much like their first contest with Massac County, the Bombers spent a majority of the first half in defensive mode as the Patriots made several goal attempts. Ballard showed that this game wasn’t going to be like the last one in that they kept the Patriots from scoring until 17 minutes into play.
Massac was able to score again a few minutes later, but their third and final goal of the half had to wait until there was just one minute left on the clock; this brought the score at the half to 0-3. They may have scored more, but Ballard keeper Josh Moss had 8 saves in the first half.
The second half didn’t get much better for Ballard Memorial as the Patriots added 4 more goals to their coffers; the first one was driven into the goal just 4 minutes into play. Ballard Memorial’s Austin Walters had two shots on goal in as many minutes, but he was unable to score for the Bombers. Theerapat “Nice” Watsamrong also had a shot on goal, but it was too high and soared over the cross bar.
The game ended in a 0-7 loss to Massac County.
