Barlow - After suffering a blow from the Mustang’s seemingly unstoppable new team comprised of the blending of “the best of the best” from three schools, the Bombers proved they were not going to let their defeat keep then down as they took on Lyon County on Thursday, August 29th.
Whereas their 9-0 loss to the Mustangs was certainly disheartening, the Bombers did not walk away from that contest empty-handed. They saw how well the Mustang’s 4-3-3 formation worked and focused on keeping in formation as they played the Lyons. This is something assistant coach Eric Overby said they were planning to do.
It may have seemed like the game against the Mustangs was going to repeat itself against the Lyons as Lyon County scored within the first five minutes of the game, but the Bombers fought back with a series of shots on goals. Senior mid-fielder Madison Wilson, senior forward Weston Gordon, junior mid-fielder Austin Walters, senior forward Clayton Walker and sophomore forward Theerapat “Nice” Watsamrong all took shots on goal.
The Bombers fought hard for a goal at one point with a series of rebounds, but they were unable to get the goal. Following this was a back-and-forth of attempts by each team. Watsamrong made a strong cross-field pass to Gordon, who went in for the goal but Lyons’ keeper, freshman Josiah Wilkerson, kept the ball from going in the net.
Lyon County got a free kick within the last few minutes of the half as Ballard Memorial keeper Josh Moss was yellow carded when he slid into a Lyon and knocked him down. Bomber keeper Darren Tabor went in for Moss and kept the Lyons from scoring. The half ended with a score of 0-1 with the Lyons in the lead.
The second half saw both teams vying for the win as
It looked as if Lyon County was going to score with Ballard Memorial’s keeper, Darren Tabor, out of the goal, but the attempt lobbed up and over the top bar. Weston Gordon went in for a shot, but the Lyon’s keeper blocked it.
Bomber Noah Overby fouled Lyon County’s Tyler Wilson; thereby, giving Lyon County’s Samuel Gray a free kick. Tabor quickly made the save. Gray got another free kick off of a foul, but it didn’t hit its mark. This was followed by another free kick given to Lyon County when Ballard Memorial’s Noah Overby was called for pushing. This free kick gave Lyon County the goal, which brought the score to 0-2. Gray was awarded yet another free kick, but he didn’t make a goal off of it.
When it seemed free kicks from fouls on Ballard Memorial’s part were going to cost them the game, Weston Gordon headed the ball into the goal while surrounded by several Lyons, who were in the goal. With only minutes to go in the game, Bomber Clayton Walker got a free kick, which had the ball sailing into the goal. The game ended in a 1-1 tie.
Goals- Weston Gordon (1), Clayton Walker (1).
