Larry Glyn Copeland, age 70, of Cunningham, passed away at 1:24 PM on September 12, 2015 at his residence. Larry Copeland was a man with deep ties to the land. From his childhood growing up on a farm in western Kentucky, to his lengthy career in environmental remediation, Larry's broad base of knowledge and experience gave him the rare ability to be equally at home working in the field as well as the boardroom. He could move mountains, purify the water we drink, and remove poisons from the air we breathe. He literally made this world a better place for all of us. His love for this world extended beyond the land to all the people living on it. Mr. Copeland is survived by his wife, Claudette Meeks Copeland of Cunningham, KY; two sons, David Taylor Copeland of Atlanta, GA, Michael Joseph Copeland of Bardwell, KY; two step-sons, David Michael Meeks of Memphis, TN, Jonathan M. Meeks of Bardwell, KY; one sister, Alice Rose Davis and husband Dwight of Bardwell, KY; one grandchild, Cayce B. Copeland of Atlanta, GA; two nieces, Vicki Dunn of Bardwell, KY, Carla Thomas of Hickory, KY; three great-nieces, Brooklyn Dunn, Bristol Dunn, Blakeleigh Thomas; four great-nephews, Joshua Dunn, Timothy Dunn, Steven Thomas, Megan Gray. Mr. Copeland was preceded in death by his parents, Glyn and Sue Alice Bodkin Copeland. Memorial services for Mr. Copeland will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, September 18, 2015 at Corinth United Methodist Church in Cunningham, KY with Rev. Eddie Smith officiating. Roy Thomas, 63, of Hickman died Friday, September 4, 2015, at Clinton Place in Clinton. Mr. Thomas was a member of Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church. He is survived by two sisters, Helen Harvey and Dorothy Benford, both of Hickman; one brother, Henry Thomas of Union City, Tennessee; three sons, Emmanuelle Harvey and Kellee Harvey, both of Paducah, and Bill Ray "Big Man" Scott of Union City; one daughter, Christy Pettigrew of Fulton; 13 grandchildren; and two aunts, Annie "Topise" and Mattie "Lassie" Poole, both of Hickman. His parents were Mattie Virginia Poole and James Thomas. Services were at 1 p.m. September 11, 2015, at Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church. Nicholas Glenn and Michael Williams officiated. Interment followed in Hickman City Cemetery.
Paul Eugene Thompson, age 64, of Cunningham, KY, passed away at 6:40 PM on September 12, 2015 at the Ray & Kay Eckstein Hospice Care Center in Paducah, KY. Mr. Thompson was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church and served as Carlisle County Coroner for 7 years. He retired from the U.S Army reserves with 22 years of service and was a Registered Nurse serving surrounding area hospitals. Mr. Thompson is survived by his wife, Betty "Boo" Feagin Thompson of Cunningham, KY; two daughters, Mindy Garrett and husband Kris of Cunningham, KY, Katy Eddleman and husband Rob of Cunningham, KY; mother, Mary Teresine Thompson of Bardwell; two sisters, Jane Draper and husband Steve of Milburn, KY, Julie Duncan of Humbolt, TN; four brothers, Tommy Thompson of Bardwell, KY, Michael Thompson and wife Denise of Bardwell, KY, Freddie Thompson and wife Susie of Cunningham, KY, Lyndal Thompson of Bardwell, KY; three grandchildren, Rorey Kate Eddleman of Cunningham, KY, Dax David Garrett of Cunningham, KY, Reese Kaelor Eddleman of Cunningham, KY. Mr. Thompson is preceded in death by his father, Lloyd "Tud" Thompson. Funeral services for Mr. Thompson will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, September 17, 2015 at St. Charles Catholic Church with Father Chrispin Oneko and Father Masi Suvakkin officiating. Burial will follow at St. Charles Catholic Church Cemetery. Visitation for Mr. Thompson will be held from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM on Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at St. Charles Catholic Church. Joint graveside memorial services for Lowell Thomas "Tommy" Baker, 77, and Barbara Lee Baker, 58, both of Columbus were at 2 p.m. Saturday, September 12, 2015, at Oakwood Cemetery. Tommy died Tuesday, October 21, 2014. He was a towboat captain for 20 years, working for Mays Towing, Mid-South Towing and Ingram Barge Company. His parents were John Roy and Lucy Beatrice Brinkely Baker. He is survived by his daughter, Meredith Baker of Columbus, Kentucky; one sister, Lula Belle Puckett of Clinton; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother and three sisters. Barbara died Saturday, March 4, 2006. She was a retired railroad clerk at Illinois Central Railroad and a member of Columbus Baptist Church. Her parents were Jewell Edward and Imogene Webb Boyd. In addition to her daughter, Meredith, she is survived by one sister, Brenda Martin of Kansas City, Kansas; and one brother, Stephen Boyd of Hardinsburg.
Friends met at Oakwood Cemetery at 2 p.m. Saturday, September 12, 2015. Stephen Boyd officiated. Brown Funeral Home in Clinton was in charge of arrangements.
