Chamber addresses the needs of business
La Center – Meeting businesses needs and learning about the role played by circuit clerks was the focus of the recent chamber meeting.
According to Jessica Toren, Manager of External Education Business Sector, Workforce Solutions (WS) housed in the Emerging Technology Center at West Kentucky Community and Technical College (WKCTC) is the place to contact for business needs. Toren informed those in attendance at the breakfast held at the Bluegrass Restaurant in La Center, that WS will provides many types of services.
These services include but are not limited to: training on computer software programs such as Word or Excel, helping in hiring employees, providing certifications for forklift drivers or administering insurance exams.
Many of the services are eligible for the Kentucky Grants Program and the business or business owner will only have to pay 35% of the entire costs.
According to Toren, Workforce Solutions trained 3,000 people and worked with 58 different companies during 2012. A few weeks ago, Toren said that they set up some training for crane operators on the river. Toren stated that WKCTC is the only community college in the Untied States that offers a two-year degree in marine technology.
The Chamber Breakfast’s second guest speaker was Holly Dunker. Dunker is the Circuit Clerk for the Ballard County Circuit Court Clerk. Dunker spoke about the role of the Ballard County Circuit Court Clerks Office (BCCCCO) in relation to the citizens of the county.
Not only does the BCCCCO oversee the criminal case files, DUI case files, adoption cases, divorce cases, and domestic violence cases, the office provides the court with potential jurors. She reminded the attendees that the jury duty list comes from Frankfurt and is based on driver’s license, property ownership and registered voters in the county.
