Christmas Choir Concert draws big crowd

La Center - Students, parents, and community members gathered at the La Center First Baptist Church on Sunday, December 15th for an afternoon of Christmas music presented by the Ballard County Middle School Choir and the Ballard Memorial High School Choir.

The Christmas Choir Concert featured standing room only as the entire sanctuary was filled as the Choirs sang a variety of Christmas music under the direction of Choral Director Samantha Veal and the accompaniment of Becky Buckley.

Mrs. Veal opened the concert saying how hard the students had worked to put the concert together and that she was happy the event was held as scheduled since the possibility of its cancellation was quite possible with the recent shut-down of Ballard County Schools for six days due to severe road conditions.

The 6th grade choir sang four songs: Song that Nature Sings, Good News, A La Nanita Nana, and Snow is Falling.

Following the performance by the 6th graders, the 7th grade choir sang five songs: Who’ll be a Witness, Something Told the Wild Geese, God Rest You Merry Gentlemen, In Winter, and Sing Noel! The last song featured soloists: Taryn Hamilton, Rayanne Lindblad, Michaela Nutt, and Courtney Spees.

The High School Concert Choir sang three pieces from Four Carols of Christmas. Emily Morehead and Kerrie Pullen were the featured soloists for “Twas in the Moon of Wintertime, and Naoma Curtis was the soloist for Saw You Never?

The High School Concert Choir was accompanied by Heather Waters on Flute, Kara Boyd on oboe, Marilyn Shepherd on violin, and Nikki Fuller on Cello. All other accompaniment was down by Becky Buckly.

The High School Concert Choir also sang Carol of the Bells and O Holy Night with Jessica Jones and Georgann Ingram featured as soloists.

The Beginning Women’s Choir sang Do You hear what I Hear, and the Women’s Choir sang This Little Babe from A Ceremony of Carols.

Even though school was not in session for over a week, the Choirs were able to come together and bring Christmas Cheer to the entire community. In addition to thanking Becky Buckley for providing accompaniment, the entire Christmas Choir would like to thank Bobbie Wray and Jessica Morrow for altering and cleaning the choir dresses, First Baptist Church of La Center, and the administration for their continued support of the vocal music program.
