Fulton announces substantial increase in gas rates
Fulton City Manager Kenney Etherton announced during Monday’s city commission meeting that the predicted over-all purchase price for natural gas is up 26% from where it was this time last year and it doesn’t look good for the winter months this year.
Etherton also gave the com-mission heard an update on bringing the lagoon up to state regulations. Etherton stated that he did not have a hard dollar fig-ure right now, and added that over the next couple of years the lagoon is going to cost the city some dollars to bring it up to standards.
The commissioners agreed to allow the city manager to pursue obtaining a one million dollar community development block grant for home repairs.
In other action the commis-sion heard a request from Dan Voegeli regarding the “deck” at Lohaus Field. He was advised that it is still in legal correspon-dence with the leaseholder of the deck.
The commission also heard from Kirk Vowell and Jeff Watts regarding the condition of the animal shelter in Hickman.
In other business the commission authorized the city man-ager to hire Kevin Goodson as a dispatcher pending POPS certifi-cation and authorized the city manager to hire Ben Natividad as a police officer.

Kentucky State Police releases Fulton County/Hickman County road check locations
(HICKORY, KY.) Kentucky State Police Post One will be conducting safety traffic checkpoints in the Post One area. Troopers will be checking for impaired drivers, children that are not properly restrained in child safety seats, and to inform the public about the use of seatbelts. These safety checkpoints will be conducted in various locations throughout the Post One area that are experiencing a high ratio of vehicular crashes resulting in injury and/or death compared to relatively low safety restraint usage ratio.
