In 1876, a Western Union memo said, "The 'telephone' has too many shortcomings to be seriously considered as a means of communication. The device is inherently of no value to us". They couldn't imagine using a telephone to communicate, much less people carrying a phone with them everywhere they went.
In 1895, when speaking about aviation, Lord Kelvin, Royal Society president said, "Heavier-than-air flying machines are impossible". He was proved wrong just 8 years later.
In 1930-31, Henry Ford decided to build his famous, affordable, V-8 motor with eight cylinders cast in one block. He instructed his engineers to produce a design for the engine. They all argued with him stating that it was "simply impossible" to cast an 8-cylinder engine block in one piece. Ford replied, "Cast it anyway." (Goodreads, Inc. 2018). Now, everyone is familiar with the V-8 engine.
In 1943, Thomas Watson, IBM CEO, said, "I think there is a world market for maybe five computers." ... Wrong! Just 75 years later, most of us have three or four computers; a laptop, a couple iPads and a Smart Phone that serves as telephone and computer.
Henry Ford once said, "One of the greatest discoveries a man makes, one of his great surprises, is to find he can do what he was afraid he couldn't do."
Isn't that how life is? Life is always about changing seasons. What looks impossible may just be possible. Jesus said, "With God, all things are possible".
Are the changing seasons sent for lessons to teach us hope? (Beauty will appear again). Are the changing seasons meant to teach us to wait; to be patient? (Just wait, the next season will appear). Are the seasons meant to teach us to prepare? (Make plans, now. Don't procrastinate because change will come whether you want it or not).
Most of the material things that we enjoy today were once thought impossible. What we take for granted everyday like telephones, electricity, airplanes, drones, indoor plumbing and running water were declared impossible before they actually became reality. Just remember, with God nothing is impossible. It may take time, but it's not impossible. Nelson Mandela said, "It always seems impossible until it's done".
God has a plan for the world; for you; for everyone who will believe and faithfully serve him. Wait patiently and prepare for it.
No one is without hope of change. God hung the stars, the moon and the sun. Do we actually think it's impossible for him to change a circumstance? Or, a person?
All of the things that once seemed impossible were made possible because the inventors did not get stuck in the moment. They were able to look beyond where they were. Beyond the current circumstance.
What is beyond the moment for you? If Thomas Edison had gotten discouraged after 10,000 failures, he would not have invented the light bulb. Edison said, "I have not failed. I have found 10,000 ways that won't work." According to these great inventors, what makes things impossible is stopping along the way.
What's just beyond the moment for you and everyone else? You see, God wants to save and deliver you, but he also wants to save and deliver the people you think are hopeless. God is no respecter of persons. He wants to save and deliver everyone. You have hope. Don't give up. "Don't be weary in well-doing", the Bible says. This moment is just a stepping stone to the next.
