Lyon County - In their final game of the season before District finals, the Lady Bombers took on Lyon County for the second time on Oct. 1st. Just as in their first game against the Lady Lyons back on Aug. 29th, Ballard Memorial started their offensive assault early and held strong until the final whistle blew.
Senior Millicent Green made the night even more memorable in that she scored her 75th goal. Twenty-five of those goals were scored this season alone. This is a school record for Ballard Memorial.
Just as in their first contest with Lyon County, Green went in for a shot within minutes of start of play. Unfortunately, the ball went too high. Green went in for yet another goal about a minute later, but Lyon County’s keeper, McKenzie Melton, caught it. Green finally scored with 24:07 minutes on the clock off of an assist by Danielle Seabolt. A trip in the box within the last minute of the first half brought Green a PK that resulted in her second goal of the evening.
Ballard Memorial’s seniors Hailey Houston, Abbi Denton, and Shelby Rollings also had shots on goal in the first half, but did not score for the Lady Bombers. The score at the half was 2-0, with Ballard Memorial in the lead.
The second half saw neither team scoring for just under 19 minutes until Millicent Green scored for Ballard Memorial, thereby giving her a hat trick for the evening. Lyon County’s Jill PPoole (who is currently ranked 5th in the region’s top scorers, playing a minimum of 10 games) was unable to get one past the Lady Bombers even though she did have four attempts. She had scored Lyon County’s only 2 goals back on August 29th when they lost to Ballard Memorial 10-2.
Hailey Houston, Shelby Rollings, Abbi Denton all had shots on goal in the second half, and Keeper Marlee Reid had 4 saves. The Lady Bombers won 3-0.
The Lady Bombers will be taking on McCracken County at a First District game at St. Mary on Oct. 15th at 5:45 p.m. St. Mary will be playing Paducah Tilghman at 7:15 p.m. The winners of the two contests will play each other on Oct. 17th at St. Mary at 5:45 p.m.
