La Center – The sun was shining and the temperature was just right to hold the Grand Opening Ceremony for Greg’s Market on Thursday, October 3rd. When asked, Greg Godby, owner of Greg’s Market, had this to say about Ballard County, “Ballard County is such a great, and very caring community.”
Greg’s Market is having specials all week as well as prizes to give away. According to Wesley Newton, Manager of Greg’s Market, the top prize is a 32” flat screen TV, another prize is a Keurig Coffee Maker, and ten entrants will each win $50 in the $500 Grocery-Give-Away.
It was almost a year ago when Joe Brooks Whipple retired and sold Whipple’s after his family had been in the grocery business for 89 years. Godby said that Whipple’s had a very good customer base and Godby is pleased that Greg’s Market has done well. Godby added, “The community has been very receptive and friendly.”
According to Kim Godby, Greg’s wife, Greg has been in the grocery business for 25 plus years. He started out working for Kroger when he was in high school. Greg continued working at Kroger during his years in college. Sometime after Greg left Kroger, he started working for Associated Wholesale Grocers (AWG). Greg has wholesale and retail knowledge, which he uses on a daily basis to run all three of his grocery stores in Western Kentucky.
