Happy Trails Ministry rider Rainey Gibbs

By Pat Thomann, Editor

For rider and competitor, Rainey Gibbs horses are her life. Rainey who has been riding since she was 4 years old has become an avid fan of competitive horsemanship. Rainey has competed in numerous competitions and has won a saddle and belt for her efforts.

Rainey will compete in the National Barrel Horse Association World competition in July 2015. To qualify for this event a rider must be in the top 3 competitors nationwide and only have 6 shows to qualify. The World competition is the largest event with over 1,000 riders competing from several countries including Italy and Brazil.

Rainey competes in several events including barrel, poles and does some goat ties and roping. Rainey says, "I am kind of an adrenaline junkie and competitive riding is a big rush. I love what I do and the teamwork, you have to trust your horse with your life."

Rainey credits her trainer, Laura Clark with the accomplishments she has made. Rainey says she is an amazing teacher and they have a great facility to train at.

Rainey's Mom, Sharon Glover says that kids who train with horses are 80% less likely to get into trouble than others and Rainey says that it takes 110% of your time and you don't have time to get into trouble. With owning a horse it's a full time job with feedings, exercising and training.

Rainey says, "I don't know what I would do with my life if I didn't have this."

Rainey is a freshman home schooled student and plans to attend Murray State University upon completing high school.

Competitions is not only time consuming but very expensive. A BBQ fundraiser will be held at Dairyette in Lone Oak to help with expenses for Rainey's World Competition. They will be cooking ribs for $16 and pork butts for $30. Last date to preorder is October 29th and pickup date is November 9th. To preorder you may call Rainey's Mom, Sharon at 618-499-6832. Two more cooking's will be held later. Any help will be appreciated by Rainey and her family. World Competition will be held in Perry, Georgia and she will be representing Livingston County in a big way. Let's help her get there and wish her well in her upcoming events.
