KSP Post 1 Seeking Angel's for their Angel Initiative
HICKORY, Ky. (March 8, 2018) - After announcing the Angel Initiative at KSP Post 1 on Tuesday, March 6, 2018 Post 1 has helped two individuals get into a treatment facility.
The Angel Initiative is a program which encourages individuals seeking addiction treatment to visit a KSP post, where he or she will be paired with a local officer who will assist with locating an appropriate treatment program. It is completely voluntary, and the individual will not be arrested or charged with any violations if he or she agrees to participate in treatment. The program will be operated in conjunction with Gov. Bevin's "Don't Let Them Die" campaign, aimed at raising awareness of the opioid epidemic and offering treatment resources to fight addiction.
To qualify for the program the person seeking help cannot have an active arrest warrant, cannot be a registered sex offender, cannot have three or more drug convictions, cannot be convicted of a felony sex crime, or a person under the age of 18 without the consent of the parent or guardian.
KSP Post 1 is currently seeking volunteers to become Angels for the program. An Angel is a person who volunteers and meets the requirements. The Angel's have to be at least 21 years old, have a valid driver's license, a properly registered vehicle with insurance, submit to a criminal history background check, attend all mandatory training for the program. Disqualifiers on becoming an Angel are felony sex convictions, violent felony convictions, felony convictions and all misdemeanor violent offenses less than five years from the time of conviction and all other misdemeanor offenses less than two years from the time of conviction. Any open charges other than traffic violations shall be ineligible until the active case is adjudicated or the charges dismissed, and anyone on probation or parole will be ineligible to serve as an Angel.
