LADY BOMBER VOLLEYBALL TEAM OPEN SEASON AT OWENSBORO SLAMDOWN

High hopes were awaiting the Lady Bomber volleyball team as they began the 2013 season at the Owensboro Apollo Slamdown on August 23rd and 24th. The results were not entirely what the Lady Bombers were looking for, but they did come away with two wins in the tournament play. On Friday, the Lady Bombers lost to the host school Apollo in three sets.  After falling in the first set 25-19, Ballard Memorial returned the favor to capture the second set with the same score setting up a third and decisive set.  Apollo ran away with the third set, winning by a final of 15-4.  Also on Friday, the Lady Bombers won against Muhlenberg County with a convincing two set score of 25-7, 25-9.

On Saturday, the Lady Bombers went 1-2 on the day. The Lady Bombers defeated Meade County in a tight 25-20, 25-23 two set sweep.  Grayson County defeated the Lady Bombers 25-16, 25-22 and the most disappointed loss during the tournament was to district foe Graves County.  The Lady Eagles swept the Lady Bombers in a hard fought contest, winning 27-25, 25-22.  This leaves the Lady Bombers with a 2-3 record after the opening weekend of play.

Rebekah Hogancamp led the Lady Bombers with 15 aces and 14 digs for the weekend.  Taylor Foster ended the tournament with 35 kills along with Elizabeth Goodin contributing with 25 of her own.  Jade Tilford added 63 assists over the two days.  A key stat the Lady Bombers will need to improve on will be the blocks at the net. The Lady Bombers only managed nine blocks over the five game span. Goodin and Madison Trusha led the team with three each.

The Lady Bomber varsity team returns to action with a district match up on Thursday, August 29th playing host to Mayfield. The loss to Graves was a non district matchup so the Bombers enter the match looking to go 1-0 in district play.  The Lady Bombers will then try and get some revenge on the Lady Eagles as they travel to the Eagles Nest on Sept 5th for their second district contest of the young season. They follow that matchup with the All A Tournament at the SportsPlex in Paducah on Saturday, September 7th.
