Barlow - Coming off of a frustrating loss to McCracken County on Tuesday, August 27, the Lady Bombers came into their contest against the Lady Lyons on August 29th with full force. With two Lady Bombers on the bench with injuries, Leah Wildharber with a broken foot and Carlee Pace with a micro-fracture to the femur, Ballard Memorial looked like they were serious about making a comeback from their game against the Mustangs as they immediately started a offensive assault on the Lady Lyons.
Within in the first minute, senior mid-fielder Millicent Green went in for a goal, but, unfortunately, the ball went a little wide. This was shortly followed by attempts to score by junior forward Haley Bohn and senior mid-fielder Shelby Rollings. Both girls ended up shooting wide and missing their shots.
Senior mid-fielder Hailey Houston took a corner kick that landed on the back of the goal, but this didn’t hold her back. She followed her attempt by yet another shot straight up the center and sailed the ball home; thereby, nailing the first goal of the night for the Lady Bombers.
The Lady Bombers went on to play an aggressive first half with several shots on goal by Green, Rollings, Houston, senior fullback Lindsey Grief, and Houston. Green scored the second goal of the night for the Lady Bombers, but this was followed by a goal from the Mustang’s Brianna Rollins off of a PK that resulted from a Lady Bomber’s handball in the box. Sophomore Kylee Heal brought in the 3rd goal that would bring the score to 3-1 at the half with the Lady Bombers ahead.
Ballard Memorial started out the second half with a bang as Millicent Green blasted a goal for the Lady Bombers within the 1st minute of play. Green’s goal, followed by another goal by Hailey Houston, further widened the space between the teams’ scores with the Lady Bombers at 5 points and the Lady Lyons at 1.
The Lady Lyon’s Brianna Rollins squeaked in a goal just under the cross bar in an attempt to even the score, but Lady Bomber Lindsey Grief spoiled those plans with a goal that brought the score to 6-2.
Things got a little stressful when Lady Lyon Brianna Rollins got a free kick, but she didn’t get the goal. Millicent Green scored her 3rd goal of the night followed by a tense moment when Lindsey Grief lost her footing. Freshman full-back Kayto Buchanan came to her aid and passed the ball to Houston, who took a shot on goal, but her shot was too high.
The Lady Bombers continued their offensive dominance on the field as Lindsey Grief scored yet another goal. According to the clock, the Lady Bombers brought in 5 goals within the first 20 minutes of play in the second half.
With 8 goals already on the scoreboard, Sophomore mid-fielder Danielle Summers scored another goal for Ballard Memorial, and Millicent Green added one more goal to her hat trick within the last 2 minutes of play. The final score was Ballard Memorial 10, Lyon County 2.
The Lady Bombers went on to defeat the Lady Panthers at Dawson Springs on Saturday, Sept. 1st. Millicent Green scored 4 goals, one assisted by Kylee Heal and another by Hailey Houston. Green had 6 additional shots on goal. After 5 games, she has a total of 14 goals.
Houston scored 1 goal off of an assist/cross from Shelby Rollings. Houston, Lyndsey Grief, Rollings, and Abbi Denton had two shots on goal each. Lady Bomber Keeper, Jade Babb, made 3 saves to earn her first shutout. The Lady Bombers won the contest against Dawson Springs with a final score of 5-0.
