Lady Bombers win share of 3rd District Title

An 8-5 Lady Bomber victory on Monday, May 12th against Graves County allowed Ballard Memorial to capture a share of the Third District regular season title. The Lady Bombers and Lady Eagles both finished the district with a 3-1 record. Ballard Memorial won the tie breaker which allowed them to automatically advance to the championship game as well a birth to the regional tournament at Calloway County. The Lady Bombers will play the winner of Mayfield and Graves County on Tuesday, May 20th at Mayfield. The Third District Championship game will begin at 7:00.

After falling behind 1-0 in the first inning, the Lady Bombers rallied for two runs in the third to claim the one run lead. The Lady Bombers exploded for a six run fourth inning to take the 8-1 lead. The Lady Eagles rallied with one run in their half of the fourth and then scored three more in the fifth to trim the deficit to three. The Lady Bombers held tough in the last two innings to claim the 8-5 victory. Ashleigh Tyson went 2-4 and scored a run, Rebekah Hogancamp went 2-5 with a double and one RBI. She also pitched all seven innings allowing five runs, two earned, on eight hits, no walks and struck out two Lady Eagles. Leah Shelley walked three times and scored once, Taylor Foster went 2-4 with a double, one RBI and scored twice. Shelby Amis had three RBI’s in the game as she went 1-4 and scored once herself. Shelby Hawes also went 2-4 in the game. Ree Fields had an unusual game at the plate as she reached base all four times at bat as she walked three times, and was hit by a pitch while having one RBI. Morgan Yarbrough stepped in as a courtesy runner and scored twice, while Shelby Elrod was a courtesy runner and scored once. The Lady Bombers scored eight runs on ten hits while committing three errors in the win.

The Lady Bombers then traveled to Metropolis, Illinois to face Massac County. The Lady Patriots are ranked in the top 25 in Class 2A in the state of Illinois and was coming off a 2-0 shutout over the McCracken County Lady Mustangs. The Lady Mustangs are the number 1 ranked team in the entire state of Kentucky. The Lady Bombers competed with the Lady Patriots, but Massac was able to come away with the 6-0 shutout over Ballard Memorial. Massac had defeated the Lady Bombers 11-0 earlier in the year in a five inning affair. The Lady Bombers stand at 12-16 as they head into the championship game.
