Lady Cards to host Cardinal Classic on Saturday

SMITHLAND - Volleyball season has arrived for the Livingston Central High School Lady Cardinals. The Lady Cardinals will host the 5th Annual Cardinal Classic Tournament on Saturday (Aug. 24) at LCHS. Crittenden County, Trigg County, Webster County and Union County are the teams set to join host Livingston Central for this year's one-day high school volleyball tournament.
 Livingston Central opened the 2013 season on the road Monday evening, playing at Paducah Tilghman. The Livingston Central-Paducah Tighman volleyball match ended too late to make this edition.
 Livingston Central compiled an 11-11 record last season, falling to Crittenden County in the opening round of the 5th District Tournament. The Livingston Central volleyball team is under the guidance of head coach Melissa Dean.
Crittenden County exited the 2013 season with a sub-par 6-17 overall record. The Rockets, however, finished runner-up to Trigg County in the 5th District and competed in the 2nd Region Tournament. Head coach Carol West guides Crittenden County.
 After capturing the 5th District championship and falling to Hopkins County Central in the opening round of the 2nd Region Tournament, Scott Hill-coached Trigg County exited last season 17-15.
 Still a relatively new program, Webster County struggled throughout the 2012 season, ending the campaign 1-26. Head coach Brad Brown will look to get the Lady Trojans turned around in 2013.
 The 2012 6th District runner-up, head coach Dale Adkins' Union County volleyball team went 9-16 last season. The Bravettes finished runner-up to Henderson County in the 6th District and fell to Christian County in the opening round of the 2nd Region Tournament.
The Cardinal Classic will get underway at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
