Livingston Hospital Former Employee now Volunteers
Founded in 1954 the Livingston County Hospital and Healthcare Services in Salem Kentucky is a 24 bed Level 4 Trauma Center serving the Livingston County/Crittenden County area. The hospital serves the Eddyville/Kuttawa area with the Eddyville Family Medical Clinic and Grand Rivers with the Grand Lakes Clinic.
All areas of the hospital and its clinics are known for their caring staff of doctors and nurses providing excellent care for their patients.
A vital parts of the hospital is their many volunteers. One such volunteer is Helen Tharp of Salem. Helen worked at the hospital before retiring in 2003. Helen would have continued working but after hip surgery doctors would not let her return to work.
In her 30 years as a hospital employee, Helen worked in many areas of the hospital as a floor nurse, surgery nurse, and nurse assistant. In 1987 Helen was voted hospital “Employee of the Year.”
After her retirement, her love of the hospital brought her back a few years ago as a volunteer in the gift shop. Helen, along with Livingston Hospital Auxiliary President, Beverly Wallace, volunteers Jackie Myrick, Rozann Malcolm, Mary Lou Terry, Nora Johnson, Virginia Bowen, Vivian Manus and Peggy Fraliex man the gift shop counter.
The gift shop has many items that might be needed while visiting someone in the hospital or a special gift to put a smile on a patient's face.
Auxiliary members meet the second Wednesday of the month in the hospital conference room. Helen said they always need volunteers and anyone that would like to volunteer may call the hospital gift shop at 270-988-7399 for more information on how you can help.
