Dr. Howard Winston Mathis, 71, of Salem, KY, passed away Monday, December 30, 2013, at his home. Dr. Mathis was a graduate of North Marshall County High School; Murray State University, where he received his bachelor of arts degree; and the Southern School of Optometry in Memphis, TN, were he received his doctorate degree. Dr. Mathis was a lifetime member of the Kentucky Optometric Association; the American Optometric Association; Marion Lions Club; and was on the board of directors of the Crittenden and Livingston County Health Departments. Dr. Mathis was a member of Salem Baptist Church. He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Marcella Mathis of Salem, KY, one step-daughter, Felicia Belcher, and her husband Rudy of Henderson, KY; one sister, Wanda Sue Melton of Salem, KY; two grandchildren, Megan Belcher of Henderson, KY, and Kris (John) Belcher of Evansville, IN; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard Winston Mathis, Sr. and Ada Rountree Mathis. Funeral services will be Friday, January 3, 2014, at 2PM, in the chapel of Boyd Funeral Directors in Salem, with the Rev’s. Chuck Ellis and John East officiating. Rev. David Bennett Brasher, age 75, of Benton, KY, died Friday, December 27, 2013 @ 12:45 pm, at Baptist Health in Paducah, KY. Bro. Brasher pastored several Western Kentucky churches in his 55 years of ministry. He also conducted revivals throughout the area. He was faithful in mission work throughout Ohio and Idaho. He was a graduate of Livingston Central High School and obtained a Bible Studies Degree from Mid-Continent Baptist Bible College. He is survived by his wife: Carolyn Phillips Brasher, of Benton, KY: One Daughter: Deirdra Anne Edmonds, Auburndale, FL; One Son: Paul Bradley Brasher, Sr. and wife Stacie, Paducah, KY; Two Sisters: Mary Catherine Jones and husband Adrian, Grand Rivers, KY, Betty Sue Pauley and husband Lacy, Soddy Daisy, TN; Two Brothers: William (Bill) O. Brasher and wife June, Grand Rivers, KY, Rev. C.C. Brasher and wife June, Benton, KY; Three Grandchildren: Dr. Paul Bradley Brasher, Jr. and wife Ansley of Albany, NY, Branden Allen Edmonds and wife Monica of St. Louis, MO and Bethany Edmonds Borders and husband Stephen of Paducah, KY. He is preceded in death by his parents: Charlie Clark and Nellie Brown Brasher, Sr.; Grand Child: Justin Blake Brasher; Two Sisters: Frankie Brasher and Jacquelyn Gail Chandler and One Brother: James Roy Brasher. Funeral service will be at Friendship Baptist Church at 2:00 PM, Monday, December 30, 2013, Rev. Ms. Norma Jean Lehman, age 82, of Benton, KY, died Tuesday, December 31, 2013, at Caldwell County Hospital in Princeton, KY. Born June 6, 1931 in Springfield, MA. Ms. Lehman was the Dietary Supervisor at the Calvert City Convalescent Center, retiring after 25 years of service. She was a member of St. Matthew by the Lake Lutheran Church and was a member of the Marshall County Lakeshore Homemakers. Ms. Lehman honorably served her country in the US Army. She was the daughter of the late Henry Godfrey and the late Edith (Patchett) Godfrey. She is survived by: three daughters: Darlene Timmons, husband Harland of Grand Rivers, KY, Debra Rowley of Marion, KY, Donna Shields, husband Les of Oak Grove, KY; one son: Donald Lehman, wife Betty of Glasgow, KY; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Donald Godfrey. Arrangements are being handled by Collier Funeral Home, 211 West 5th St., Benton, KY. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 4, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel of the Collier Funeral Home. Esther Marie Hite Davidson Driver, 90, of Golconda, Ill. formally of Tiline, Ky. died 11:00 p.m. Wednesday at Rosiclare Healthcare center in Rosiclare, Ill. Mrs. Driver was a Homemaker and a member of Mint Springs Baptist Church in Tiline.
She is survived by 1-Son, Fred Davidson of Smithland, 3-Daughters, Nellie Smith of Grand Rivers, Velvie Eubanks of Smithland, Linda Jensen of Brookport. 20-Grandchildren, numerous Great and Great Great Grandchildren and several Nieces and Nephews. She was preceded in death by her Parents-John Em Hite and Claudia Paris Hite, 1st Husband-Douglas Davidson, 2nd-Husband E. Margaret "Melissa" McLeod Taylor, 40, of Princeton died Thursday, January 2, 2014, at her home. She was of the Baptist faith and was a homemaker. She is survived by her parents, Louis "Buddy" and Margaret Newton McLeod; three daughters, Marissa Chyanne Taylor and Kelsey Nicole Taylor, both of Ledbetter, and BreAnna Faith Taylor of Calvert City; one brother, George Lee McLeod of Princeton; and one sister, Jennifer Ann Shavey of Benton. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 4, 2014, at Collier Funeral Home with the Rev. Preston Lee Bloodworth, 71, of Smithland died at 7:55 p.m. Saturday, January 4, 2014, at his home. Arrangements were incomplete at Collier Funeral Home in Benton.

Jesse Holeman Hughes, 93, of Marion died Wednesday, January 1, 2014, at Crittenden County Health and Rehabilitation Center. He retired from Potter & Brumfield and the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of Marion United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy M. Hughes; three daughters, Debbie K. Goddard of Nashville, Tenn., V. Gail Sievers of Collierville, Tenn., and Michelle L. Hughes of Marion; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother. His parents were Thomas and Gretna Mae Holeman Hughes. Services with military rites will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 4, 2014, at Myers Funeral Home in Marion with the Rev. Wayne Garvey officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until service time on Saturday at the funeral home.

Mr. Preston Lee Bloodworth, age 71, of Smithland, KY, died Saturday, January 4, 2014, at his home. Mr. Bloodworth was a member of Friendship Baptist Church, a member and coordinator of Disaster and Emergency Services of Livingston County from the early stages. He was a part time Deputy for a short time under Jack Day. He retired from CCMA Alloys of Calvert City where he worked for 42 years. Mr. Bloodworth a veteran of the US Army where he honorably served his country during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Bloodworth is survived by his wife of 48 years, Martha Sue (Bailey) Bloodworth, Smithland, KY; three sons: Creston Lee Bloodworth, wife Kim, Smithland, KY, Trenton Arthur Bloodworth, wife Vickie of Calvert City, KY, Denton Gilbert Bloodworth, wife Pam, Smithland, KY; six grandchildren: Hunter Lee Bloodworth, Smithland, KY, Donnie Bloodworth, wife Samantha, Murray, KY, Thomas Bloodworth, wife Lauren, Crestwood, KY, Tyler Preston Bloodworth, Calvert City, KY, LeAnna Paige Bloodworth, Smithland, KY, and Coleton Lane Bloodworth, Smithland, KY. Mary Bloodworth was preceded in death by his parents: Gilbert Lee and Ruby Carleen (Yancy) Bloodworth; and brother: Charles Don Bloodworth. Funeral service will be at Collier Funeral Chapel at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, January 8, 2014, Rev. C.C. Brasher and Rev. Larry Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Miller Cemetery, Grand Rivers, KY.
