Lord, Teach America To Pray
General Douglas MacArthur said, “History fails to record a single precedent in which nations subject to moral decay have not passed into political and economic decline. There has been either a spiritual awakening to overcome the moral lapse, or a progressive deterioration leading to ultimate national disaster.
A minister said to President Lincoln during the worst days of the Civil War, “I surely hope to Lord is on our side.” Mr. Lincoln replied, “I am not at all concerned about that. I know the Lord is always on the side of right. It is my constant prayer that this nation should be on the Lord’s side.”
The Bible admonishes us to pray for all who are in authority. We are not told to criticize our leaders. If we pray for them more, we would have less to criticize.
DeTocqueville of France wrote of America, “I sought for the greatness of America in her harbors and rivers and fertile fields and her mines and commerce – it was not there. Not until I went into her churches and heard her pulpits flame with righteousness did I understand the greatness of her power. America is great because she is good. If America ever ceases to be good, America will cease to be great.”
“May our good land be true and just, Her motto ever, In God We Trust. May she be guided by Thy Word, They wisdom in her halls be heard. May all who love her plead today. Lord, teach America to pray!”
