March winter storm dropped a bundle of snow
By Lilly Morefield
On Sunday afternoon rain began to fall and as temperatures fell it soon turned to freezing rain, sleet and overnight a bundle of snow totaling up to 6 or more inches laid perfectly on the ground.
As motorist headed for work on Monday many found themselves in ditches or in other collisions.
Kentucky Cabinet of Transportation reported many collisions along I24, Purchase Parkway and other interstates, and roadways. Road crews were out salting and plowing but it was also reported many snow plows were off the road due to very slick conditions.
With warmer temperatures and sun shine on Tuesday some roadways were cleared on both or at least one lane but many had patches of snow and ice that covered sections of the road.
Weather forecast calls for warmer temperatures with snow and ice slowly melting with periods of March sunshine and a slow warming trend. It could get into the 50's by Friday and the weekend. It was also reported that all signs point to even warmer weather for next week.
Spring is just around the corner, the first day of spring is March 20.
