More fun in the Mud at the Ballard County Fair
by Kelly Paul
La Center - The second round of fun in the mud at the Ballard County Fair brought out even more Spank the Monkey and Mud Bog fans this past weekend following last weeks 4-Wheeler competitions.
This time, trucks took to the track. Spectators watched as contestants made their way around the track in an effort to take a whack at the stuffed monkey dangling at the finish line. Although speed was definitely a major factor in the race, it was mainly the turn that would make or break each contestant. Unfortunately, one truck actually did break as the driver tried to navigate through the muddy turn to get onto the straight way that would lead to the monkey.
Saturday night brought out even more mud fans as Trucks took a chance at beating the Mud Bog. One after another, trucks from each class tried to out-distance each other to take the win. The fans that stayed until the end of the races got a show they were definitely not expecting as one driver’s truck caught on fire. The truck ended up being towed out of the bog and the fire was extinguished.
This year, the county’s youngest competitors got a chance to take to the track as kids rode their Power Wheels through the bog during intermission. The little guys and girls were all smiles as their parents snapped photos of them as they made their way through the mud.
In all, even with a few mishaps, this year’s Spank the Monkey and Mud Bogs brought the county together for good times that will sure to leave lasting memories until next year when the county will, once again, come together for Fun in the Mud at the Ballard County Fair.
