The 2013 Octoberfest volunteers from throughout Livingston County have been working since August to develop an even bigger and better event on in Smithland.
One of the first tasks was to choose a theme for the event and create the artwork that would go with the day and appear on the 26th Annual Octoberfest t-shirt. The Smithland Area Chamber of Commerce and the Octoberfest volunteers agreed this year to Honor Those Who Protect and Serve. This includes the Livingston County Sheriff's Office, The Kentucky State Police, The Livingston County Jailer as well as the EMS services, and all five county volunteers fire departments. Those include Smithland Fire and Rescue, Ledbetter Fire Department, Burna Fire Department, Salem Fire Department and Grand Lakes Fire Department.
“We are proud of the service and sacrifices made by the members of these fine organizations and the Chamber and the Octoberfest volunteers are glad to recognize them this year and show the logo for each organization on the front of the 26th Annual Octoberfest t-shirt,” shared Paula Belt, chamber member and officer.
The group raises funds each year during Octoberfest, to then pay for the free fireworks that is sponsored each , and put on by the Smithland Fire and Rescue Squad. “We always list the names of the sponsors on the back of the Octoberfest t-shirt and we will still have room for more. We hope a few more area businesses will contact me by , so we can include them. The $100 sponsor fee also includes one t-shirt for the sponsor,” Belt added. She can be contacted at 270-928-1197 or stop by C-Plant Credit Union in Smithland.
The colors chosen this year are royal blue on a bright “safety green/yellow” similar to those worn by many workers every day.
