Throughout the summer, members of the Smithland Area Chamber of Commerce and many new volunteers and community members have been meeting to organize the upcoming Octoberfest. The yearly event is always the first in October and many activities are planned for the event in Smithland.
“We are excited about the number of volunteers from throughout the county to step up and participate in the preparations for Octoberfest. Are immeditate need is for businesses and organizations from the area to be sponsors on the back of the Octoberfest T-shirt. To be included on the back of the T-shirt, the cost is $100 and we need to hear back from those interested by this ,” shared Paul Belt, Chamber Officer. Belt can be contacted at 270-928-1197.
Fun activities are planned throughout the day including the parade scheduled to start atM. That will be followed by a brief historical Pow Wow, followed by the most popular event from last year – the Firefighters Olympics. The fun event pits several Livingston County Firefighters against each other in various competitive events including the obsticle course, the tug of war and much more.
Vendors will be set up throughout the area from 10:00 A.M. until 4:00 P.M. If you would like to be a vendor please contact Denton Wood at 270-508-0728.
New this year will be a tour of the old Livingston County Court House. The Historic Court House on Court Street will be open for veiwing from . The Court House is now on the "National Register of Historic Places."

Other activites and entertainment events are being finalized and more information will be shared in the coming weeks.
