Fiscal Court to hold Public Hearing before making County Road 1057 one-way

The Carlisle County Fiscal Court met on May 16 at the County Courthouse in Bardwell with Judge Executive Greg Terry and all magistrates present.

After the Roll Call and the Pledge to the Flag, the minutes of the previous meeting were reviewed and approved.

Coroner Brigitte Choate reported that she had one nursing home death and that she was in the process of compiling information for a death from 2012 so that the insurance company will be able to pay on a death benefit.

Jailer Ronnie Owens reported that Carlisle County has six inmates housed in the Ballard County jail and everything is running smoothly.

The court discussed the pros and cons of changing the short County Road 1057 that connects US 62 and Hwy 307 from a two-way road to a one-way from US 62 over to Hwy 307. The court held a 1st Reading of an Ordinance to change the road to one way and there will be a Public Hearing at the next Fiscal Court meeting on June 6 to allow the public to voice their opinion.

EMS Director Josh Glover reported that he is preparing the 5-year solid waste plan and that the recent Spring Clean Up Dump Days went very well. A lot of county trash was brought to the dump sites around the county.

The Fiscal Court was honored to receive a hand-made quilt from Roseland Adair and her sister Rita Lawrence. The quilt shows the history of the county, its school system, and even has the new elementary school on it.

The court would like to publicly thank these ladies for their hard work and dedication to preserving Carlisle County history on this quilt.

The court had a review and 1st Reading of the new budget and approved the 1st Reading. The new budget for $2,617,465 is down from last year as cuts were made in some areas.

The court also opened sealed bids for county work including bids for fuel, rock bridgework and asphalt and they approved the transfers and claims presented.

The next regular meeting of the Carlisle County Fiscal Court will be held on Tuesday, June 6 at 9:30 a.m. and will include the Public Hearing for the proposed changes to County Road 1057. Everyone is welcome to attend.
