Parade Fun at Smithland Octoberfest
By Pat Thomann
It was so much fun being in the Octoberfest Parade in Smithland. I enjoyed seeing a lot of folks that I know but especially those of you that I did not know. Leo Green, our Sales Rep for the Ledger and I loved seeing the kids, young and old having such a good time. The weather was a little cool but at least the sun was shining.
It was great that we could honor our fantastic Lady Cardinals as they cruised to the Kentucky State Championship. They have made the school and the county so proud of their accomplishments.
Congratulations to North Livingston Elementary School for winning 1st place in the Parade and congratulations to Faye Teitloff for receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award for her contributions to the preservation of Livingston County history. We truly have a lot to be proud of in Livingston County.
A special thank you to Supreme Court Justice Bill Cunningham for speaking at the POW WOW, to Doris Cothran for her portrayal of Nurse Clara Barton, to Dr. Diane O'Brien, Magistrates Marvin Buford and Franklin Walker and the students that presented a skit depicting the way women were held back in their struggle for equal rights and all those that made this event possible.
Also a special thank you to the vendors who came out and brought their great products the fantastic food. I especially enjoyed the pork chop sandwich at Bub-A-Que. Bub Croft cooks up some delicious BBQ and is always sold out early.
The Smithland Area Chamber of Commerce did a fantastic job organizing this event and I can't wait to see what they do next year.
