Barlow - Coming into the week having taken a heartbreaking 0-9 loss to Massac County on September 5th, the Bombers were looking to step up their game and find redemption in their contests against Paducah Tilghman and Mayfield.
Despite their improvement with passing and 1v1, the Bombers were unable to bring home a win from either the Tornados or the Cardinals; although, they did not suffer such a grueling loss as they had done against the Patriots.
Within the first 5 minutes of the game against the Tornados on Sept. 11th, PTHS scored their first goal of the evening. This came after an admirable pass from Austin Walters to Weston Gordon; although, Gordon ended up losing the ball.
Austin Walters scored the first of the 2 goals the Bombers made in the contest against PTHS. Devin Griffin assisted Walters with the goal.
The Tornados main strategy seemed to be the utilization of diagonal passes and shots on goal. Their second goal of the game came from a short diagonal drive into the net. Unfortunately, this strategy did not work every time they employed it as the Tornados shot three diagonal crosses to the goal with no reward. Each shot went either over the goal or wide.
In the last part of the half, Senior midfielder Clayton Walker tried to score off of two free kicks, but he was unable to score for the Bombers.
The Tornados scored their 3rd goal from a corner kick to the center where it was blasted into the goal. Paducah Tilghman again tried for three diagonal shots on goal but ended up going wide. The Tornados were up 3-1 at the end of the first half.
Senior fullback Austin Summers opened up the second half with a free kick, but he didn’t get the goal. Ballard Keeper Josh Moss made a close save from a Tilghman clip shot off of a free kick when he kept the ball from squeezing in the goal just under the cross bar.
About 10 minutes into the second half saw Tilghman score another goal. Another attempt from a corner kick brought them yet another goal within the next few minutes. The Tornados continued to try to score using a wide diagonal shots, but they either went too wide or were blocked by keeper Josh Moss.
With just a few minutes to go in the game, Senior Clayton Walker took a free kick and scored for the Bombers. Ballard Memorial’s contest against Paducah Tilghman ended with Tilghman taking the three-point lead over the Bombers with a final score of 2-5.
The Bomber’s second game of the week had them going up against Mayfield for the second time this season. Unfortunately, the Cardinals took the win just as they had done back on August 22nd when they finished that contest 4-1 over BMHS. This time, the Cardinals won 4-2.
The first half saw two answered goals by Mayfield’s Noel Roman and Jose Roman. The second half opened with a Mayfield goal within 4 minutes. Following a thirty minute delay due to lightning, Clayton Walker nailed a corner kick to the center, but a Cardinal cleared it via a header. Austin Walters went for a pass to freshman Josh Byerly, whose goal attempt was caught by Mayfield’s keeper.
The Cardinals racked in another one goal despite Ballard’s defense.
With a little less than fifteen minutes of play, Clayton Walker scored Ballard’s first goal for the evening. Shortly thereafter, Ballard’s Anthony Byerly and Mayfield’s Austin Crouse were both red carded for fighting.
Clayton Walker scored another goal for the Bombers, but they still lost to Mayfield 2—4.
