Salem celebrates Derby Day

On Saturday May 3rd 2014 the city of Salem will celebrate Salem Derby Day. The city will come alive in celebration of the 140th Kentucky Derby. The day will feature the Derby Day Pageant, sponsored this year by Natalie Parish. Proceeds will go to Cali Cares Relay for Life. Natalie welcomes ages one through 18 to participate. You may pick up an entry form at Miles/Harris Gas Office.

The day will also include the Salem Cloggers, Night Moves Dance Team and Kara Harris Crowell and Country Line performing country music. There will be lots of vendors, inflatables and games for the kids as well of lots of food for your enjoyment. Be sure to check out the Plant Sale for those spring plants.

A Derby Hat Contest/Parade, Hula Hoop Contest will be held and be sure to submit your Derby Pie for the Derby Pie Contest.

In case of inclement weather the event will be moved to the Salem Baptist Christian Life Center. If you are interested in a vendor booth you may pick up a form at Miles/Harris Gas Company or e-mail janet.hughes@mchsi.com for more information.

Anyone willing to help with setup and takedown please contact Doug Slayden at the City Hall for information. Any help will be greatly appreciated especially with takedown.

Everyone is invited to come out and enjoy celebrating Salem Derby Day with us, support our local merchant and don’t forget to decorate your fanciest Derby Day Hat for the contest.
