Salem Food Market business spotlight

By Pat Thomann, Editor

August 1, 2013 was a day that changed Eddie Wilson's live forever. Although Eddie had worked at Salem Food Market for 33 years, that was the day he actually became the store owner. Eddie had been a part owner of the store along with Carol Guess and when Carol decided she was ready to sell her half of the business Eddie purchased her share and became sole owner.

Salem Food Market has been in business in the same location for nearly 40 years. Eddie manages the store along with his Assistant Manager Joyce Kitchens. Joyce's husband, Rudy Kitchens stocks the shelves and works the meat department. Carol still does the book work for the store and fills in for vacations and where she is needed.

Eddie says, "The good Lord has been good to me and my family. I don't want this store to be about me, we are like family here, and we take care of each other."

At present the store has 15 employee's mostly fulltime but includes one high school student and one college student. Eddie says the students are a vital part of his operation because they can work nights and Saturdays when older workers would like to be off.

Salem Food Market takes pride in their clean store, friendly staff, personal service in all departments and they still carry your groceries to your car. Eddie says, "We take pride in our perishable sections, our meat and produce departments. We stock fresh meats and vegetables for our customers. The first Friday of April and October we have our big "one day meat sale" of bulk items like chicken, ground beef and sausage as well as others. A few non meat items are also included."

The store also carries Hunt Brothers Pizzas made to order by phone or in person.

The store is located at 425 E. Main Street in Salem Kentucky. Store hours are 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM Monday through Saturday and closed on Sunday. They can be reached at 270-988-2960. Give them a call if you have any questions or would like to order one of their delicious pizzas. Eddie and his staff consider it a pleasure to be of service to you and your family for all your grocery needs.
