Say What? by Phillip Hazelwood;Trouble comes
by Phillip M. Hazelwood
Trouble comes, oh, so suddenly. We don't expect it and it makes us afraid. It's like an ambush in a narrow canyon. No place to run; just completely at the mercy of God to save us. We may not have been praying much lately, but for sure we are praying now.
Some people have more troubles than others. Samuel, the Prophet and Judge of Israel just before Saul and David, is one that seemed to not have so many troubles, or at least he handled them well. On the other hand David was always facing some hard trouble, one after another.
Enemy, after mortal enemy, David faced and defeated dangerous life-threatening opposition, starting as a teenager and continuing on throughout his life. His constant song, praise, faith, and God's divine providence sustained him to the end. He died at peace in his own bed and was never turned over to the will of his enemies.
So it is with us, today. Troubles, trials, heartache and pain; sickness, sadness, loneliness, and fear; rejection, separation, and death are our companions. Broken plans and dreams, doubt and confusion, yet we press on, seeking that city not made by man.
Praise your way through the pain. Never give up on what you have been taught. God is faithful and true and He will not leave your soul in hell. He will renew your mind with the Word of God. He says to the storms of life, "Peace, be still". He is a shelter from our troubles and a healing balm for our pains.
Someday we will endure our last trial and face our last trouble. Look up and behold His smiling face and take more strength and courage to fight on. You will win in the end.
Jesus is our Strength
