Where the river flows

Where the river flows everything will live
.. Ezekiel 47:9
How are you shaping people in your world?
In scripture, Christians are often referred to as living water. One place we are told, "Out of your innermost being ... Shall flow rivers of LIVING water." We know living water has healing properties, while we know stagnate water is disease filled. With that in mind, how would you characterize the living water in you? Does it bring life and healing to those you come in contact with?
What comes to mind when you think of a river? Boating? Fishing? Industry?
What do all those things have in common?
Life. Life is the common denominator for everything along a river, but life is only possible because there is a source that supplies a constant flow into the river. A river always has a source. For the believer, our Source of living water within, is God.
How can we be compared to a river?
A river always has movement. It never sits still. If we are sitting still as a believer, we are in danger of becoming stagnate, without energy, or health, to bless others.
A river always provides food...it sustains entire cities. Prosperous towns are built by a river for a reason. Think of a Christ-follower as a river. The closer a Christians lives to the river of life, to God, the more likely it is that we will be able to encourage, build up and sustain people in our lives.
A river always shapes it's surrounding. Whether you know it or not, you are shaping your children, your friends, your co-workers. If you are not shaping them, why not? A river shapes it's surrounding. The surrounding never shapes the river.
A river always has depth ... The deeper it is, the more life you'll find in it. So it is with a Christian. The deeper our roots are embedded in the Word, the more life flows through us. A river invigorates. It encourages life and renewal. I am convinced, if every believer encouraged life and renewal, without being judgemental, there would be a whole lot less discouragement in the body of Christ. Are you an encourager?
WHERE THE RIVER FLOWS ... EVERYTHING WILL LIVE.
Ezekiel 44:4 says, "The glory of The Lord is behind the door and is the source of the gushing water."
The river in you has a Source. Without a source ... the river will dry up. Could this be why some people don't CONTINUE as a Christian? It certainly could explain why many never grow spiritually; never go beyond confessing salvation. The farther we move from the source, the dryer we become. Stay close to the Source.
Connection to the Living Water is not just for a select few. It is for you. It is for me. It is for everyone.
One thing is certain, a river ALWAYS shapes it's surrounding. The surrounding never shapes the river. "Where the river flows, everything will live." Notice, it says, "Where it FLOWS". If the river, the Spirit of the living God, is not "flowing", it is not shaping it's surrounding. It must have movement.
Here's a question to think about: Will you leave an impression when you leave this world? Will anyone even know you've been here? Will the river, in you, leave twisted, distorted land shapes for the next generation, or will it bless the next generation?
Go to the nearest river and just watch it flow. You'll never SEE the changes the river is making ... until it's made a lot of change! It takes years to see the erosion, but it's happening hour by hour; day by day; year by year. Don't get discouraged and think you're not making a difference.
You may not see it, but just like Ole Man River, we change things quietly, slowly, inch by inch ... but we change them. Of that you can be sure.
Christians have a Source, a well that flows from within. If it's flowing, if it's active, and not stagnate ... it produces life, peace, and comfort to the most troubled soul.
WHERE THE RIVER FLOWS, EVERYTHING LIVES, Ezek.47:9
Will you invigorate and encourage life in your sphere of the world? Or, will you just drift, letting life happen as if it doesn't matter, until one day you're gone? What kind of footprint, if any, will you leave for the next generation?
You must keep the river flowing. Stir up the gifts within you. Stay close to the Source. The Word, the Scripture, is living water. Let it flow in you, so it can flow from you.
