Divided we fall
By Teresa LeNeave
This is about as simple as it gets: anything divided becomes smaller, weaker, and less than. The very fiber of our country was weaved into this sentence: "One nation under God, indivisible, with justice and liberty for all." What happened to the indivisible in our country? Indivisible means impossible to divide, impossible to separate. We seem to have forgotten the "indivisible". It's like someone took a cleaver and slammed it into our nation leaving us divided, torn and injured.
Getting just two people to agree on anything seems near impossible.
Maybe "indivisible" was just a dream from the beginning, but I believe there is a higher truth that we'd do well to remember and that is "unity".
If we sought unity in our nation, our homes, and our churches it would certainly bring more peace. Why can't we see unity serves our own best interest?
Unity makes life happier and certainly more peaceful so why are we, as a people, so determined to have our own way? Why do we forget what God said about unity? Maybe God knows unity is just a dream, a goal, that He wants us to work toward, because he said, "If it be possible, as much as lies in you, live peaceably with all men" (Roamans 12:18).
Or, maybe the Church should take more seriously His call to equip God's people to do His work and build up the Church, the body of Christ. This (perfecting and edifying), Paul wrote in Ephesians 4: 13, should continue until all of us are united in our faith and in our knowledge of Jesus, who is the standard.
My prayer for America is that we never lose faith in the path. I believe God has prepared stepping stones that will lead us where we need to go. It's when we step off the path, or even completely ignore and forget it, that we begin to destroy our strength by our division.
If we can't live with "indivisible" can we at least live with the higher truth of unity? Anything divided becomes smaller, weaker, and less than. That's true for family as well as country. The motto that President Lincoln stood on, "United we stand, divided we fall", has never been so true.
It's not hopeless. I believe God meant it when He said, "If my people who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; THEN I will hear from heaven and forgive their sin, and will heal their land (2 Chr. 7:14). Our land needs to be healed. It can be healed. Never lose faith in the path (God's mercy and forgiveness).
