Kings think differently

By Teresa A. LeNeave

Kings think different. There's a well-known story of a King and a famous golfer. The golfer earned the favor of the King and as a result, he offered him a gift. He said, "I'd like to buy you a gift. Anything. Whatever you want, I'll get it for you."

The golfer thought for a while and finally said, "You know, I need a new golf club. If you insist on getting me something you can get me a new club. "

The golfer went home; back to the United States. For weeks he kept expecting a UPS truck to pull up in his driveway with a long package the length of a golf club. It never arrived so he finally forgot about it deciding the king had changed his mind.

A few months later a certified letter arrived. Surprised to be getting a certified letter mailed from overseas, he quickly ripped it open. A deed was tucked between the pages of the King's letter that read: Enclosed is the deed to your favorite country club. I apologize that it took so long to close the deal.

Kings think differently. When the golfer said he needed a new club, he was thinking a new driver or putter. When the King was thinking club, he was thinking a prestigious country club.

Are we like the golfer? Is your vision tainted by what you're already accustomed to? For most of us there is a cap on how high we think or dream.

The Word, the Bible, says God is able to bless us exceeding, abundantly, above anything we can ask or even think. Notice the limit is on our imagination and ability to think big. But, there is a second restriction too, that is even more important.

The second part of that verse says, "According to the power that works in you"(Eph. 3:20).

What power is Paul talking about? It is "the power that raised Jesus from the dead" The same Holy Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead is the same Holy Spirit that works in you. That's power! That's ability above anything we can do, but it's easy for God. Kings think different.

In Isaiah 11:2 the Holy Spirit is called The Spirit of Might. The beautiful thing is that Jesus' Spirit is given to us. In Acts 1:8 Jesus said he would give us the power of the spirit. Another place we read, "He has not given us the spirit of fear, but the spirit of love, of power, and of a sound mind" (2 Timothy 1:7).

One of the names of God is El Shaddai, which means, "the God of more than enough". Develop this attitude and in time you will be the lender and not the borrower. Kings think different.

Don't live your life defeated, discouraged or distracted by sin. If you are a redeemed, forgiven, Christ follower, you have the Spirit of the Creator of the universe living in you. Believe what God says about you. You're the head and not the tail. You're above only and not beneath. Jesus, himself, called us kings and priests. Kings think differently. What are you thinking?
