Know Your Enemy

By Teresa LeNeave

Know your enemy. This enemy is not your neighbor or your boss or your ex or your friend that just stabbed you in the back. The enemy you need to know is the one that's after the destruction of your soul. It's not your marriage he wants, or your money, or even your peace and sanity. It's your soul that the devil wants.

When you've prayed and prayed; when you've read the Bible and claimed every scripture you think applies to your problem; when you've been faithful and tried to live godly ... and still life is a mess, that's when you have to be on the lookout for sneaky things satan throws into your path to trip you up. That's the enemy you need to know and be aware of.

When you have no money; your car breaks down. When your marriage is in shambles; another person pops in the picture to try to steal the father or mother of your children. When you can barely make ends meet; you lose your job. When it's bad, it may seem to get worse. All kinds of things can happen to us that tears our world apart. One minute things appear to ge fine. The next minute devastating news can nearly stop your heart.

There is a lot of injustice in this world, but through it all "faith is the victory that overcomes the world" (1 John 5:4). It's not just "faith" that overcomes the world, because you can have "faith" in a number of things that won't help you overcome adversity. Difficult situations can be dropped on you by the truck load and all your positivity won't make it go away. (Although it will help you get through it without destroying your mental state). A positive outlook is very important, but it can't change injustice. What it does change is how we look at what's happening.

I promise you, there is something that can change situations.

That something is actually, someone. John said, "Whatever is born of God, overcomes the world (we know this to be Jesus); and this is the victory that overcomes the world, even our faith. ... Who is he that overcomes the world, but he that believes that Jesus is the Son of God?" (1 John 5:4-5). Faith in Jesus probably won't change the death of a loved one, but it can heal the broken heart. It can restore a broken relationship that seems irreversible. It can give you hope that helps you overcome.

Don't lose your hope. Hope is the ANCHOR of your soul.

The Bible says you're not wrestling with flesh and blood (with another person), but your battle is with unseen forces. (Ephesians 6:12). Your battle is with the enemy of your soul. You fight an unseen force with a more powerful unseen force.

These are your weapons God was given you to use in the war for your soul:

1. Word of God - Heb 4:12,13

2. The blood of Jesus - Rev 12:11

3. Name of Jesus - Mark 16:17

4. Holy Spirit - Romans 8:26

5. Fellowship with Christians - Prov 27:17

6. Spiritual armor - Eph 6:11-13

You may be in the worse battle you've ever experienced, but if you use these weapons you will protect your soul, and the soul of your children. Know your enemy. Be aware of his tactics. Speak the Word against evil, but don't try it in your own power. Remember, you fight an unseen force with a more powerful unseen force, which is the power of the Holy Spirit and faith in the Son of God. When your faith begins to waiver, hold on tighter. Read the six scriptures in the previous paragraph. You may have to reread them a thousand times, but don't give up. The battle is for your soul, but the God you serve will not let you down. Know your enemy. Use the weapons God has provided and hold on. Faith is the victory that overcomes the world.
