Seeking His Presence by Teresa A. LeNeave; No magic formula

We pray for one reason ... to change things. Afterall, why would you pray if you want things to stay just like they already are? If you're sick, you want to be well. If your child is suffering, you want God to fix it. We pray because we want change. It's hard for me to believe that anyone REALLY believes in total predestination, even if they say they do. Otherwise, why pray? You pray because you want change.
The Bible is filled with promises, and prayers, all designed to offer a way for change in our lives and in the world. God's promises are written so we can pray, claim and experience CHANGE in our own personal lives, the lives of family, friends, their friends and even the world we live in: including the government.
Why pray if you think it shouldn't CHANGE? Change, often doesn't happen instantly, but sometimes it does. In Luke 13:11-16, a story is recorded about a lady who was crippled, even bowed over, unable to stand straight, for 18 years. For 18 years she came to the same synagogue. She and her friends had probably prayed for her healing many times. Then, one day she was there at the same time Jesus was.
WHILE HE WAS TEACHING, HE SAW HER ....
Jesus responded to the cry in her heart. He looked directly at her and said, "Woman you are loosed from your infirmity." Immediately, she stood upright and was healed. Change came. You pray because you want change.
God's promises are not magic formulas, but if you believe them ... believe they apply to you, and you seek God, he will hear your cry.
You've often heard, "Sometimes, God's greatest answer was the prayer he didn't answer". And, that's true if we are praying for something that would ultimately hurt us or take us farther from God. That's when I'm so grateful that God knows all things. He not only has the power to navigate a ship, but he has the power to maneuver the heart of man. You'll find that in Proverbs.
His promises are not like a magic wand that you can wave and get what you want, but his promises are real. They are for you. For your benefit.
Ps. 32:8 says, "I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go: I will guide you with my eye." I want His guidance. How about you?
Ps. 50:15 says, "Call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver you and you shall glorify me." I want His deliverance. How about you?
Matt 11:28-29 says, "Come unto me all you who are heavy laden and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you; and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and you shall find rest for your souls." Sometimes I really need rest. How about you?
GODS PROMISES ARE NOT MAGIC FORMULAS, but if we love God with all our heart; if we are seeking to know him; if we pray and keep on praying: He will hear and change will come.
2 Pet 1:4 says, "Whereby (by God) are given to us EXCEEDING GREAT and precious promises: THAT BY THESE, you might be partakers of the divine nature .... Having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust."
By THE PROMISES, we are PARTAKERS ... Not of just answered prayers, ... But OF THE DIVINE NATURE ... because we ESCAPED (by believing his promises) we ESCAPED the corruption that is in the world.
Prayer changes things. It's not enough to just know the promises are in the Bible, or even that He can. They are not magic formulas. But the promises are for you. For your benefit. Through faith in Jesus' name, and the Word of God, you CAN experience change. We pray because we want change. Pray.
