Sen. Ridley to continue to serve the citizens of the 4th Senatorial District; district will stay intact
FRANKFORT – Under the new redistricting plan passed by the Kentucky General Assembly last week, Senator Dorsey Ridley’s senate district will remain intact.
Senator Ridley, D-Henderson, who represents the 4th Senatorial District, will continue to represent Caldwell, Crittenden, Henderson, Livingston, Union and Webster counties in the Kentucky State Senate.
“I am delighted that my district will have the same nucleus makeup that it has had for the past 60 years,” said Senator Ridley, who has represented the 4th District since 2004. “Redistricting is always a complex, difficult process but I am pleased with the entire outcome for the State Senate.”
Senator Ridley said that he supported Governor Steve Beshear’s decision to call the members of the General Assembly into special session to complete redistricting instead of waiting until the 2014 Regular Session. “I commend Governor Beshear for calling us back to Frankfort to draw the legislative lines. With the upcoming session being a budget session, it was important for us to get the issue of redistricting behind us so we can focus primarily on balancing the state budget in 2014.”
When the General Assembly took up the issue of redistricting during the 2012 Regular Session, Senator Ridley’s district was moved from western Kentucky to central Kentucky – Fayette County. The courts ultimately struck down that plan, calling it unconstitutional. This meant legislators remained in their current districts until new district lines could be redrawn.
Senator Ridley praised President Robert Stivers, R-Manchester, for taking the high road and not playing political games with the redistricting process during the special session. He added that the president and his Republican leadership team made great efforts to work with the Senate Democratic minority leadership to devise a plan that was fair to all members and to the citizens of Kentucky.
“I look forward to continuing to represent my constituents in the 4th District in the Kentucky State Senate,” Senator Ridley said.
