So Great Salvation
As a young preacher I was like a sponge soaking up every word and taking notes as fast as I could write. I shall never forget that day so long ago when New Testament professor Dr. T.D. Brown made such a simple yet profound statement. In his deep southern draw he said to a room full of young ministerial students, “Young men, without Jesus I am sunk!” then he went on to explain there is no Plan B. Jesus Christ is “the way, the truth, and the life” and no one gets to the Father except through Him.
Jesus paid the whole price for our salvation. The precious blood He shed on Calvary’s Cross is totally sufficient to atone for our sins. When Jesus said from the cross, “It is finished,” He meant it is finished! As a songwriter so aptly wrote “ ‘Tis done, the great transactions done!” Salvation is by grace and it is free to us, but it is not cheap. It cost God a great price. He purchased our salvation with the precious blood of His only begotten Son.
I once spoke to a youth group that had been under some confusing teaching and thought they must deserve and earn their own salvation. When I had them read several passages of scripture that says “Jesus tasted death for every man,” “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you shall be saved,” a teen age girl spoke up. She said, “I understand what you are saying, but that sounds like Jesus did it all – He paid the whole price.” I said, “That’s right, you understand it now.”
In the very next church service we were singing, “There is a fountain filled with blood, drawn from Emmanuel’s veins, and sinners plunged beneath that flood lose all their guilty stains.” She didn’t wait for the sermon, she ran to the altar, followed by three other teens, and we saw four precious souls born into the Kingdom of God right in the middle of the song service.
He is a great Savior and He has purchased for us a great Salvation!
